WILLIAMSON COUNTY NEWCOMERS CLUB

Enter as Strangers-Leave as Friends

October 2017

Happy Fall, Friends

Our September kick off luncheon is successfully behind us and Interest Groups are in full swing. The days are becoming cooler and shorter, signaling Autumn. It makes me think of comfort food. Soup comes to mind. our club reminds me of the "Stone Soup" folk story in which hungry strangers convince the townspeople to share small amounts of food in order to make an ample meal for all. They started with a mere stone in a pot of boiling water. One by one, the townspeople began to bring out bits of vegetables, etc. to add to the pot. Soon, the pot was full, yielding a hearty soup to share!

Similarly , each month some of our members start fresh perhaps with a single idea that snowballs into a flurry of monthly activity. When everyone contributes, what a full club we create. So following is a personal favorite recipe for a pot of soup to share on these cool fall evenings:

FALL CORNSOUP

1 Large can V- 8 juice

1 cup or so diced ham

1 Large family size bag of frozen corn

2 stalks each celery and carrots, sliced

1/2 cup or so chopped onion

OPTIONAL items can include any leftover veggies to taste: diced green pepper or potatoes, green beans or can of kidney beans etc.

Season to taste with salt and pepper, garlic, basil, oregano, 1 T Worcestershire sauce and a pinch of red pepper..?1. Mix all in large stockpot

2.Add 2 V-8 cans full of water

3. Simmer at least 40 minutes

Enjoy your "Stone Soup" of the season!!!!!

See you at the next luncheon onWednesday, October 4!
