WILD SHORTS COMPETITION TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Wild Shorts is a short film competition run by North Devon Moving Image (NDMI) to create a collection of short films made within the North Devon Coast Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). The terms and conditions for entry into the competition are set out below.

​Failure to comply with these instructions will result in disqualification so please read carefully and if you have any questions please contact us.

1. Films to have been made after 1 January 2015

2. Films to be between 2 and 4 minutes in duration including titles and credits

3. Films to be factual, about wildlife or the environment within ​theNorth Devon Coast AONB- visit the AONB websiteto find out more about the variety of landscapes and wildlife within the designation and theExplore the Coast website to plan a visit using their interactive map.

4. The subject must fall under one of the following categories:

  • Habitats and Species
  • Natural beauty
  • Conservation​
  • Sustainable living and working
  • My favourite beach/walk/view

5. Any creative style can be used including animation but must be moving image (video - not still photographs) as long as the content is factual.

6. Still photographs may be used if they do not constitute more than 20% of the total film duration

7. The content of the film must not be deemed (by the organisers) to be offensive or defamatory towards any person or organisation

8. The content must be suitable for family viewing

9. Judging and prizes:​An independent panel of judges will select one winner from each age group entry category

School group - primary

School group - secondary

Family (includes one adult and any number of children aged up to 17)

Young film makers (without adult help) - individual or group - aged up to 11

Young film makers (without adult help) - individual or group - aged 12-17

Adult (individual or group)

Judging criteria - films will be judged according to the following criteria​

  • originality and creativity
  • quality in filming technique and editing- you do not need expensive, professional equipment. Good films can be made with inexpensive equipment including mobile phones and tablets
  • quality of the storyline and script
  • communication of North Devon Coast AONB environmentand wildlife themes as listed in 4. above

The Judges' decision is final and no dialogue will be entered into.

The winners' names will be announced and listed on NDMI website

10. Permissions

  • By entering this competition you agree to allow your film to be shared freely on the internet, on DVD and at public screenings
  • If your film is selected to be shared you agree to publication of your name as author of the film
  • You, as the owner of the film, will retain ownership and copyright
  • Permission must be obtained for recording (video, photographs, sound) on private land (please see additional terms for filming at Braunton Burrows - available on our website or please contact us for a copy)
  • Permission must be obtained for all music used in the film. You can not use use music downloaded from the internet without permission from the owners and those who hold the rights to the music (a form is available to download from the competition entry page)
  • Permission from any contributors - anyone who appears in or whose voice is used in the film (a form is available to download from the competition entry page) - an adult must give authority for contributors under the age of 18
  • Permission must be sought to use any photographs or video footage which do not belong to you (a form is available to download from the competition entry page)

11. The competition is free to enter

12. Any entrants below the age of 18 must have signed authority from an adult (parent/guardian) to enter the competition

13. Film makers must treat the environment, animals and plants with respect and avoid causing any damage or injury

14. NDMI hold no responsibility for film makers' activity or safety during the making of their films

15. NDMI will publish a selection of films online and on DVD and reserve the right to not publish any film.

16. If referencing the AONB designation one the following term must be used

"North Devon Coast Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty" or

"North Devon Coast AONB"

17. The competition runs between Wednesday 1 June 2016 and Wednesday 30 November 2016. Entries can be submitted at any time after 01.00am on 1 June 2016 and must be received by 11.59pm on 31 November to be included in the competition.
