Dear Parent/Guardian,

Possible Merger between Wickford Junior School and Wickford Infant School

You will have received a letter today from the Chairs of Governors of both schools regarding the possibility of the schools becoming a primary school. There is a long way to go in this process before anything becomes certain. I believe that it would be in the interests of the community for the merger to go ahead – for one it would mean that once children have a place in the infants there would no longer be the need to reapply to the juniors. There will be full consultation with parents and the local community but there are a lot of issues to be resolved before we are able to go forward. We are looking at two possible dates for completion of the merger, September 2017 or September 2018. We will continue to keep you posted when we have news but we are hopeful that parents will welcome this development.

SATS – Year 6

As every year 6 parent will know next week is SATs week. The timetable and breakfast club details for year 6 next week have already been sent out, and are also on our school website. Breakfast club for year 6 is free and our usual breakfast club will run for the rest of the school. Children in year 6 will need to come into school via the playground entrance and straight into 6F please. The club starts at 8.00 a.m. I would like to take this opportunity to wish our year 6 children all the best for next week.

Absences

Please may I remind all parents that if your child is absent it is your responsibility to let the school know as soon as possible. Messages can also be left on our absence line. Any unexplained or unreported absences will be unauthorised.

Attendance letters

Attendance letters will be sent home on Monday. If you have been asked to make an appointment regarding your child’s attendance please do so by Friday 13th May.

Bikeability

Letters were sent home to the children who applied for Bikeability. Unfortunately all the places have now been taken. If you would like your child to attend a Bikeability course the CLC (Wickford Extended Services) offer this in the summer holidays. Please contact 01268 562879 for more information.

Bikes/Scooters

Please ensure that your child does not ride their scooter or bike on the school grounds. It should go without saying that this rule equally applies to parents as we have had incidents with parents on bikes on school grounds too.

Using a knife and fork

We are seeing more and more children unable to use a knife and fork properly. We do remind children and most do know, but they just do not bother to use the utensils properly. Please help us with this by insisting on your child using theirs properly.

Arts Award

Congratulations to Melina Berry (6F), Kai Benee 6E and Zuhaira Auckburrally (6E) who have all completed their Arts Award Explore level; accredited by Trinity College London. The children developed their understanding of the arts around them, created a piece of art work, looked at artists across all the arts that have inspired them and finally presented what they had learned to their classes.
