The places are fully funded apart from getting to the UK departure point.

All the places revolve around dedicated training courses from the ‘Green Village’ suite of certified units. They were created over a 3-year period by 8 EU partners led by Grampus Heritage. All the courses carry ECVET points as well as certification for CPD.

Placement: Working with Stone and Lime to restore cultural landscape

27th March – 2nd April 2017

Location: Lefkara, Cyprus

Day One - 27th March: Arrive Paphos from Manchester - transfer to PanoLefkara. Accommodation is in a traditional self-catering house. Grampus staff member Aylin stays there as caretaker (but not cleaner & cook!!!). There are 7 rooms available - 2 are doubles.... it is possible to have a room each..... also possible to accommodate couples! On this first evening we have a late meal at my house which is close-by. Breakfast things are in the fridge !

Day Two - 28th March: A drystone walling task - we start a 50 metre span of 90cm high wall, built with local undressed limestone - the process is led locally. The wall is to create a 'domi' (agricultural terrace) and catch slipping soil. On all these days in Kato Drys, we have lunch in the coffee shop ! & evening meal either from local wood-heated oven or barbecue. We aim to have a 5pm swim in the sea each day (if it's warm enough - should be!)

Day Three - 29th March: Build a temporary lime kiln & burn some calcite (pure limestone) - we will produce quicklime, for slaking & using as a putty to point & stabilise some ruins (Apliki church) - the burn will take all day - we will tend the kiln but use some unslaked lime from last autumn & begin pointing.

Day Four - 30th March: Today we unload the kiln and slake our own quicklime - carry on pointing and stabilising - if work space too crowded, spome return to the 'domi'

Day Five - 31st March: All day trip to Nicosia - we focus on some vernacular architecture, may visit the archaeological museum and have a cultural visit in both sides of the diovided city - lunch on the Turkish side. Evening meal back in Lefkara.

Day Six - 1st April: All day trip into the Troodos mountains - picnic lunch. We visit the village of Agros to see local food production - smoked meat, etc. Then on into the forest park (informally twinned with Whinlatter) & walk the 'Persephone Trail'. Evening meal in local taverna

Day Seven - 2nd April: Departure day but flight is 10.00pm, (22.00 hours) so we have a full day - visiting Limassol & the Kourion mosaics / Roman archaeology
