Why Resilience is important in Career Coaching

In our 30 years of experience as career coaches at Career Counselling Services, we see resilience as a key factor not only for someone trying to gain employment in a recession but for anyone undertaking career change or setting up their own business.

In this session, we will position Resilience as an ability which can be developed in our clients. We draw from a number of studies and applied research, including the work of our colleague Cathy Brown who identified eight factors indicating success for people leaving corporate life for self employment. We will distinguish between self confidence and self efficacy, the term coined by Albert Bandura. We will introduce you to the Personal Success Cycle, and coach you to use the CCS exercise ‘When I’m at my best’, using the CBA mnemonic – Connect, Believe and Articulate.

This practical session will develop your skill and confidence to build your clients’ resilience. You will need to complete the CCS exercise (drawn from the CCS Self Assessment Manual) to use on the day, when you will have the opportunity to receive and give coaching, to observe a demonstration of the approach, and to gain feedback on your own coaching.
