Objectives and Targets

  • To promote thinking skills.
  • To question and challenge pupils to think about prior learning.
  • To use stimulating and challenging activities to develop a thorough understanding.
  • For pupils to contribute to class discussions.

Prior learning

  • It is helpful if the pupils have some knowledge of the failings of Henry VIII’s marriage to Catherine of Aragon.

How to use

  • This is a drag and drop activity where pupils are asked to decide where the statements fit in explaining why Henry VIII broke away from the Catholic Church. Reasons include divorce, power, money and the desire for a son.
  • If you do not have an interactive board then the mouse can be used during the PowerPoint show to do the same function.
  • The activity works best as a thinking skills activity. It should take a whole lesson and should be used in conjunction with a paper exercise (Worksheet 1).
  • Pupils should be divided into groups of 3 to 5 to carry out the activity.
  • Each group should be given an opportunity to present their ideas to the class and justify their choices.

How to use drag and drop

  1. This activity allows for the use of drag and drop in PowerPoint (PPT). The macro is embedded so save the PPT as your template and use it as your starting point when you want PPT to have a drag and drop facility.
  2. If the PPT won’t open then open PPT normally, go to Tools, Options, Security then set your Macro Security to Medium.
  3. When the PPT opens click Enable Macros.
  4. To advance through the presentation you must use the appropriate action buttons.
  5. To end the show early you need to press the Esc.

How to edit and create your own drag and drop presentation

  1. To prepare your presentation, delete the pictures and labels. These have been used to simply give you an example. Save the ppt with a new name.
  2. Insert the object that you want to move – this can be an AutoShape, or you can create a textbox, or insert another picture/clipart.
  3. To assign the Drag & Drop macro to the object, right click on it and choose Action Settings.
  4. Click on Run Macro (DragandDrop).
  5. Switch to Slide Show view to test and

use the macro.

  1. Make sure you keep this PPT as your drag

and drop template.

Known Restrictions:

•Do not combine the DragandDrop macro

with ‘custom animations’ on the same slide.

How to insert a slide from another PowerPoint presentation

  1. In the open presentation, click where you want to insert the slide from another presentation (it's easier to see if you select the position using the "Slide Sorter" view).
  2. From the Insert menu, select Slide from Files.
  3. Click the Find Presentation tab, if necessary, and then click Browse.
  4. Navigate to the location of the file to insert, select it, and then click Open.
  5. Select the slides you want to insert.
  6. Click Insert.
