Who can apply to Gilroy Prep School?

Any child residing in the state of California can apply to Gilroy Prep School. (GPS)

Is there tuition?

No. GPS is a public school in the state of California and is free to attend.

Does submitting an application guarantee my child a spot at Gilroy Prep School?

No. If there are too many applications for a specific grade level, then enrollment is determined by an Admission Lottery. This will only happen if that specific grade level does not have a wait list.

When is the lottery?

The GPS lottery will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at Gilroy Prep School.

Lottery results will be posted at each site and will be available in the office of each school following the lottery.

Can I be present for the lottery?

Yes, please join us.

If I am a prior year applicant who is still on the waitlist what is the status of my application for next year?

Your application will be carried over to the following year. If any of your contact information changes, please be sure to log onto your SchoolMint account to update it.

Do I submit an application every year?

NO. If you submit more than one application the system will take the newest application, this means that you will be lower in the wait list.

If my child was offered a position in the prior year, but our family declined the offer, what is the status of the application for next year?

When your family declines an offered position, the child loses the position on the waiting list. You will need to re-apply by submitting another application during the open enrollment period. They will be placed at the bottom of the wait list.

What happens during the Open Enrollment Period?

Open enrollment at GPS is from the first day of school until March 31st. During this defined period all applications received are eligible, to enter our kinder lottery. All other applicants will be placed on the wait list for the grade they are applying for;should the number of students applying for kindergarten exceed the expected capacity for that grade, an Admissions Lottery shall be conducted for the open enrollment period applicants for the oversubscribed grades. At this moment, lottery only happens for incomingKINDER students. There are preference categories that determine positions within the Lottery.

What are the Gilroy Prep School Admission Lottery Preference Categories?

Enrollment preferences shall be given in the following order:

  1. Sibling
  2. In-District
  3. California resident

If I find out about GPS after the Enrollment Period (or after the Lottery) can I still submit an application?

Yes. Your child's name will be placed on the bottom of thewaitlist.

If I enroll my child at a GPS, can I change my mind?

Yes, you can. Filling out and returning an enrollment form does not commit you to a decision. As at any public school, you are entitled to withdraw your child at any time. You should be aware that once you withdraw or say "no" (to an offered space) GPS will automatically drop/withdraw you from the attendance or school waitlist and offer the spot to the next waiting family.

What is the age requirement for Kindergarten at Gilroy Prep School?

Your child must turn 5 years of age prior to September 1 to be age eligible for kindergarten.

How do I apply?

To apply go to the Gilroyprep.org, under admissions; fill out the intent to enroll form.

Can I fill out an application for my child if he/she is not going to be 5 by September 1st?

NO, you have to wait until your child is old enough to enter school to fill out an application. The system will just reject your application and you will have to re-apply when the right time comes up.
