Whitney Point Alumni Organization

The Whitney Point Alumni Organization has been meeting monthly since September to plan this year's activities and the fundraising to support those activities. The group developed the following mission statement to provide a focus on the organizations activities and efforts.

The mission of the Whitney Point Alumni Organization is to celebrate the quality of the education members received at Whitney Point Central School, to celebrate the achievements of graduates, staff, and community members that were part of the school experience, and to provide a network that can support the current students in the district. These goals are evidenced by:

  • Managing the Hall of Fame
  • Development and management of a database of graduates and former employees
  • Development and ongoing fundraising for a scholarship fund for graduates.

The Hall of Fame is an Alumni Organization initiative that began in 2011, in conjunction with reviving the annual Alumni Banquet. An application process has been developed to make nominations for the committee to consider candidates for the Hall of Fame. A specific article about the Hall of Fame appears elsewhere in this paper. This year's banquet and Hall of Fame induction is scheduled for Saturday, June 11, 2016. More information will be shared about this event later in the spring.

The Alumni website is accessible by clicking on the "Community" button at the top of the Whitney Point Central School District's website. The database of alumni is created through this site. Alumni news and information is shared through that email list. It is easy to register and add you name to that mailing list. The simple directions are on the site. The more alums that register, the better the communication can be.

The Scholarship Fund is another ongoing initiative of the Alumni Organization. Each year we plan to raise $2,000. $1,000 of that money is awarded to a senior student at graduation. The other $1,000 goes into an account to build toward a self-sustaining scholarship fund. To date $1,200 has been raised this year through a bake sale and donations. An application and selection process have been developed. Each year the application is updated and announcements are made at the high school informing seniors that this scholarship opportunity exists.

Alumni Planning Meetings are scheduled for February 8, March 14, April 18, May 16, and June 6, 2016. All meetings are held in the Whitney Point High School library, starting at 6:30pm. Meetings last approximately one hour. New members are welcome!
