Volunteering:

Volunteers are essential to the waves program. Without parent volunteers our swimmers would not be able to have a meet. Volunteers are needed for set-up, timing, scorer’s table, ribbons, snack stand, announcing, stroke and turn judges and take down at both home and away swim meets. Volunteers are asked to be at the meet by 5:30. Please check in at the scorer’s table.

If a meet is stopped due to bad weather your volunteer shift will be considered complete as long as the meet is more than half way complete. If a meet is postponed and rescheduled then we will consider you’re signed up for the rescheduled meet date. If you are unable to complete your volunteer assignment please contact one of the board members prior to meet day, the earlier the better.

A big Thank You for volunteering and putting the time in to make our summer season great!

In order to have a successful summer season, volunteer participation is crucial. Help is required in the following areas:

1. Home swim meets (There are 4 each season)

Approximately 27 positions need to be filled for each home meet

Positions include: timers, scorers, officials, runners, line-ups, ribbon writers, concession stand, etc.

2. Home swim meet concession stand requirements (food donations*)

Each family must donate two food items per season.

3. Away swim meets (There are 4 each season)

Approximately 16 positions need to be filled for each away meet

Positions include: timers, line-ups, scorers, officials, etc

Each season every family is required to fulfill the followingvolunteer commitment:

Two food donations

Four jobs

Upon documented completion of the required volunteer positions, your escrow check will be returned. By the end of the season, if required participation is not completed, your escrow check will be deposited. We ask for the jobs you sign up to be consistent as much as you can.

Practice:

Practice Attendance:

Swimmers are encouraged to attend as many practices as possible morning or evening. They do not need to attend both morning and evening practices on the same day. Please arrive 15 minutes early for practice and be ready to start at the appropriate time. The more you are at practice the more you will be put into events.

Practice Behavior:

All swimmers and parents are expected to respect the authority of the coaches. Swimmers need to come to practice prepared to swim. If your child has an injury or illness that will affect his or her practice please speak to the coaches prior to the swimmers scheduled practice time. Swimmers will follow all pool and locker room rules, this includes at swim meets; home and away. The coaches will determine the consequences of those swimmers who do not follow the rules: up to and including removal from the team without a refund.

Coaches are available to talk at the beginning and end of each practice session. Please understand that during practice our attention is on the swimmers.

Swim Meets:

Meet Attendance:

All swimmers are expected to attend all meets. If your swimmer will be missing any meet, it needs to be recorded on the meet sheets at least 48 hours prior to the meet: Coach Greg will have the meet sheet. If your child gets sick or an emergency happens please contact a coach ASAP. Please take note that meet line-ups are done in advance and we need to know if your child will not be at a meet.

Meet Behavior:

1. The swimmer must check-in with a designated coach upon arriving at the meet. Typically it will be coach Greg, Dave or Linda. Coaches will not go searching for swimmers. Therefore, it is possible if they do not check in, they could be scratched from a meet.

2. Once checked in swimmers will get situated in the team area, make note of events, and prepare for warm-ups.

3. All swimmers must stay in the team area during the meet. This is important because our parent volunteers will be calling swimmers for their events. Volunteers and coaches will NOT go looking for swimmers. If they miss their call they might miss their event.

4. All swimmers are to remain at the meet until the final score is announced and the coaches have had the team meeting.

5. Keep your area clean!

6. NO swimmers are allowed at the scorer’s table or behind the blocks unless they were called for their event.

7. When behind the blocks swimmers are to sit quietly and wait for their event.

Meet Arrival Times:

Arrive to the pool at the appropriate time. Any swimmer not at the meet by 5:30 will be scratched from their events. Only exception is if a Coach was notified by phone no later than 5:15 pm that swimmer will arrive between 5:30-6:00pm. If you know in advance your swimmer will be late please write a note for the coach.

All meets start promptly at 6:00pm.

Home Swim meets / At pool by 4:30 / warm-ups at 5:00
Away swim meets / At host pool by 5:00 / Warm-ups at 5:30

Please notify in writing if your child will be leaving with someone other than a family member.

Common meet questions:

1. What should my swimmer bring for a swim meet?

At least 2 towels (possibly a blanket to sit on), Goggles, Cap, Flip-flops/deck shoes, water & healthy snacks or money for the snack stand, cards, books, etc.: Meets are about 3hrs long, something to pass the time. Folding chairs for parents and extra clothes, warm clothes (gets cool in the evening).

2. How often will my child swim in a meet? How do I know what my child is swimming?

Each swimmer on the team will be in at least one event per meet. We try to put swimmers in as many events as possible based on your child’s ability to swim the strokes legally. Remember it is the coaches’ final decision which events your child will swim in a meet. The schedule of events are posted up in the teams section.

The following is an example of a line-up that will be posted on the fence at the meet. One sheet will be listed for each age group.
