Whitchurch Primary

Summer Term 2018

Dear Parents,

Foundation

Routine

Please bring children into school between 8.30-8.45am. Please encourage children to be independent by putting away their belongings (book bag, snack, water bottle), choosing their lunch option and putting up their coats and bag on their peg. Afterwardsyou may stay in the classroom to help settle your child to an activity. The activities the children can choose from will be displayed on Mrs Lane’s whiteboard. If your child is settled please feel free to leave. You must leave the classroom by 8.45am.

The Teaching Staff in Foundation remain the same. Theyare Mrs Lane and Mrs Pearce (TA). On Thursday afternoonsMrs Lane is released for planning time, Foundation will remain with Mrs O’Shea Warman and Mrs Pearce. Additionally, we may have a couple of other adult helpers who will join our team to help with various activities. Mrs Lane and Mrs Pearce will be out of class the week beginning 2nd July to visit the new children; Mrs Balm will teach the class all week. Mrs Lane will be contactable via email should you need to speak to her.

PE will happen daily. Please ensure your child has one pair of suitable shoes so we can do PE anywhere anytime. On Thursday mornings Foundation will be doing gymnastics on the apparatus. Please send your child into school in PE kit (tight shorts and a blue or white T-shirt, girls will need their hair tied back). We will change them back into school uniform after; please make sure they have their school uniform packed in a bag.

Most Wednesday afternoon’s Foundation will be going on a ‘Welly Walk’ or doing outdoor learning. They will need a waterproof coat and wellington boots. We ask that your childs wellington boots stay in school all year. Thank you.

Uniform- please remember your child should be dressed in comfortable clothes and shoes for school. We ask that they have one pair of daily shoes which are versatile. Please leave a labelled sun hat in their tray for the Summer Term. Foundation will be learning through play: using paints, sand, water, and mud. Their uniform will get dirty.

Contacting us

If we have any concerns about your child’s well-being or progress we will contact you.

However, if you have any concerns pleasecome and talk to one of us, we are more than happy to help. Alternatively, please email Mrs Lane as she checks her emails daily (). If you cannot talk to us in person, please contact Lindsay in the office by phone or email and she will ensure the message is passed on.

Home Learning

At the end of each week Mrs Lane will send home a little note about what the children have been learning. Included will be information about how you can support your child at home.

Reading

Please continue to regularly select and change a story book. We ask you to read these stories with your child. Please spend time talking about the pictures and discussing what may happen next. The books we ask you to select yourselves are the books with the purple sticker (found in the right hand corner of our library).

When we feel your child is ready to read we will start them on our school reading scheme. This may happen soon, or for some children it may not happen until the summer term- please do not worry.

All children learn to read at different rates. It is not a race.

We are looking forward to this last term with your children!

Yours sincerely,

Jenny Lane and Lindsey Pearce
