Dear Friends:

While facing the challenges of continually shrinking funding for the arts, this is a very momentous time for the Hartford Jazz Society and you, our partners and supporters. The Hartford Jazz Society was recently honored for its diligence and excellence for over 50 years of service "Keeping Jazz Alive" by The Amistad Foundation, a nationally recognized arts and culture peer organization. While we are very proud of being the oldest continuously running jazz society in the country, as we approach our 55th anniversary we need your continued support to surpass all of our previous accomplishments in "Keeping Jazz Alive".

Jazz originated in our backyard and is embraced in every part of the world. You should be very proud that your support is the difference maker in The Hartford Jazz Society melodically breaking new ground and strengthening the established path we have set. We invite you to join the ensemble of our members, partners and friends with your generous and continued financial support.

"Keeping Jazz Alive" is a must, for us all as heirs of our own unique art form. Whether it's the melodic sound, smooth feeling, lifestyle, wonderful memories, or love of community, the Hartford Jazz Society is grooving forward with an extra beat into our 55th year and we need your charitable support to:

 Re-launch our annual boat cruise, a picnic on a boat with great people enjoying outstanding entertainment, enhancing every possible aspect of the experience.

 Increase our scholarship awards for our young jazz progenies -musically gifted high school students

 Broaden our master classes to a wider audience producing greater impact to the next generation of jazz innovators and musical geniuses being taught the rhythmic essence and style of jazz by established professional jazz artists.

 Expand our free Monday Night Jazz in Bushnell Park series with more top tier jazz artists producing greater audiences. It costs approximately $10,000 to present one night of Monday Night Jazz. We want to evolve Monday Night Jazz as a preferred destination in the Nation's summer jazz festival season.

 Secure new offices with multiple uses, also serving as a performance venue and spot for socializing.

Join the Hartford Jazz Society in celebrating "Keeping Jazz Alive" as we waltz into our 55th year, as the oldest running jazz society in the country. You are the only assurance of the continued progress of the jazz society "Keeping Jazz Alive" by being "the first in jazz" to accomplish 55 more years of service to jazz.

Regards,

Ronald Lyles

President, The Hartford Jazz Society
