H.R. No. 121

R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, The Grapevine High School Mustangs football team has reached the pinnacle of success by winning the 1996 University Interscholastic League (UIL) Class 4A, Division 1 championship, the school's first gridiron title in its history; and

WHEREAS, Having finished the regular season without a loss, the Mustangs carried their unblemished record into a bidistrict matchup with Spruce High School and cruised to a 416 victory; and

WHEREAS, Grapevine faced West Mesquite High School in its next postseason contest, and the Mustangs dominated the game both offensively and defensively, prevailing 4213; and

WHEREAS, In the quarterfinal round, this determined Grapevine squad took the field against Mt. Pleasant High School and emerged the victor by a score of 3114 to continue its relentless march through the playoffs; and

WHEREAS, Confronting Pampa High School in the semifinals, Grapevine again demonstrated its championship mettle, winning 3114 to claim a coveted berth in the state title game; and

WHEREAS, Facing Hays Consolidated High School with the state crown on the line, the Mustangs refused to be denied, overcoming their opponent 3419 to complete the season with a perfect record of 15 wins against no defeats and claim their first ever state football championship; and

WHEREAS, The season's outstanding achievements were a result of total commitment to the team concept by members Jared Windom, Jake Kohan, Antwonne McQuarters, Matt Baan, Mark Collop, Jonathan Knutz, T. J. Howard, Steve Sands, Cody Spencer, Chico Sanchez, Aaron Taylor, Jordan Wilson, Dwayne Betik, Ryan LePori, Daniel Gormley, D'Angelo Torres, Michael Dodd, Ricky Amazaga, Eric Guajardo, Brad Lynes, Jeff Lux, Michael Calvert, Sam Robert, Tyson Olivo, Jack Brewer, David McGee, Josh Cook, Josh Azimi, Tellis Redmon, Ryan Benson, Taylor Farden, Roger Chapman, Alex Martin, Kyle Koontz, Jason Schindler, Chris Rogers, Jared Brown, Nick Leckey, Josh Kurtenbach, Christopher Harmon, Alex Pahulu, Blake Owens, John Gowdy, Rodney Tracer, Mike Eklund, Matt France, Lance Baker, Ryan Gowdy, Chris Kidwell, Brandon Parker, Jay Hodges, John Massey, Jason Camblin, Graham Chapman, Jimmy Barnett, Kris Watson, Andrew Marr, Ryan Longino, Andrew Remke, Nick Lupo, Allen Crawford, James McCarthy, Trent Scribner, Michael Clements, Cade Lovelace, Jason Horn, Kelly Sayra, Kyle Wardlaw, Stewart Records, Blake Holt, Ryan Maxwell, Richard Spruell, and Josh Born; and

WHEREAS, Head Coach Mike Sneed provided superb leadership and discipline throughout the course of the campaign, and his remarkable efforts helped the Mustangs to reach their cherished goal of a state title; he was ably supported in his endeavors by assistant coaches Bill Symon, Roger Benefield, Scott Goodwin, Tim Baxter, Gary Olivo, Heath Bullard, Gary Mullins, Scott Lee, Dave Fuller, Dave Sammons, Tim McCune, J. T. Grubbs, Andy Modica, Bruce Holmes, Bill McClesky, and Terry Hooks; trainers Robert Carlson and Tamara Kirchman; managers Richard Crow and Emily Sneed; and athletic director Ted Brevelle; and

WHEREAS, This exceptional group of young men, with their coaches and staff, is a source of tremendous pride to the students and faculty at Grapevine High School and their many supporters in the community, and their historic athletic accomplishment is indeed worthy of special legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate the Grapevine High School Mustangs on winning the 1996 UIL Class 4A, Divison 1 football championship and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued success in the future; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the team members and coaching staff as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
