2008 MAINE Event

WHEN: August 30-September 1, 2008

ROUNDS: 18 (7 Saturday, 7 Sunday, 4 Monday). Two divisions of 24 players each. No play-ups. Split R-R. Limited to the first 48 entries, so it is first come, first serve! Most current ratings will be used for divisions.

WHERE: Payson Smith Hall (92 Falmouth Street) on theUniversity of Southern Maine campus in Portland, Maine.

FEE: $99 for all divisions. Add $10 if postmarked after July 31. No entries will be accepted after August 23!

Saturday, August 30

9:30 AM Rounds 15-17, BRIEF break before round 18.

2:00 PM Award Ceremony. At least 75% of entry fees will be awarded. There will also be an award for the highest scoring “MAINE” word.

3:00 PM Evacuate immediately!! (just kidding)

FORMAT: Rounds 1-11: Split half round robin

Rounds 12-14: Group A vs. Group B based on standing

Rounds 15-17: Groups of 4 RR based on overall standing

Round 18: Straight KOTH. No Gibson rule in effect.

TRANSPORTATION: The Portland Jetport is about six miles from USM, just beyond the Maine Mall. The Amtrak/Concord Trailways bus station is about three miles from USM.

NEARBY LODGING:La Quinta (0.9 miles from site), and Clarion (1.5 miles from site). USM is about four miles from the Maine Mall. Lodging in the airport/mall area includes Holiday Inn Express, Comfort Inn, Wyndham, Sable Oaks Marriott, Days Inn, Fairfield Inn and Courtyard Marriott. I have not stayed in any of these myself.

DIRECTIONS: 295N to exit 6B (Forest Ave N). Turn left at the 2nd light on Falmouth Street;Oakhurst Dairy will be on your left. Payson Smith Hall ison the left after the Planetarium.

OTHER: Visit beautiful coastal Maine after the tourists are gone! Shop and eat in the OldPort or drive to Freeport to visit the LL Bean store and the factory outlets. Beaches and state parks are nearby. Enjoy a weekend playing your favorite game with your favorite players, hopefully enjoying your favorite weather!

THE FIRST 18 PEOPLE TO REGISTER will be given tickets to the Saturday night baseball game at Hadlock Field (0.25 miles from site) between the Portland Sea Dogs (Red Sox AA affiliate) and the New Hampshire Fisher Cats! Have your first ever Sea Dog biscuit.
