An elastic spring of k = 22 N/m is attached to a rigid wall at one end and to a 100g block at the other end. The system is placed on a horizontal table and the block is pushed against the spring, compressing it by 10 cm from equilibrium. When the block is released it travels 17 cm before coming to a stop (spring is stretched 7 cm from equilibrium). What is the coefficient of kinetic friction between the block and table?

Using the previous diagram, and assuming the particle is released from rest at point A, what is the direction of the force on the particle at point A? Point B? Which point is kinetic energy maximum? What is the force on the particle at point C? Which values of x correspond to stable equilibrium?

When can we assume linear momentum is conserved?

An open topped freight car with mass 24000 kg is coasting without friction along a level track. It is raining very hard downward. Originally the car is moving 4 m/s. What is the speed of the car after collecting 3000 kg of rain water?

On a muddy field, a 110 kg linebacker tackles an 85 kg halfback. Immediately before the collision, the line backer is slipping with a velocity of 8.8 m/s north and the half back is sliding with a velocity of 7.2 m/s east. What is the velocity at which the two players move together after the collision? (magnitude and direction)

Find the x and y coordinate of the center of mass of this object. Assume the four points are point masses in the figure.

A frictionless pulley has a shape of a uniform solid disk with mass 2.5 kg and radius of 20 cm. A 1.5 kg stone is attached on a light wire wrapped around the rim of the pulley. System is released from rest. How far must the stone fall so that the pulley has 4.50 J of kinetic energy? What percent of the total kinetic energy does the pulley have?

A 12 kg box resting on a horizontal, frictionless surface is attached to a 5 kg weight by a thin, light wire that passes over a frictionless pulley. The pulley has a shape of a uniform solid disk of mass 2 kg and diameter of .5m. After the system is released, find the tension in the wire on both sides of the pulley and the acceleration of the box.

A 2 kg rock has a horizontal velocity of magnitude 12 m/s when it is at point P. At this instant, what are the magnitude and direction of its angular momentum relative to point O? If weight is the only force acting on it, what is the angular momentum?

The horizontal beam in the following figure weighs 150 N and its center of gravity is at its center. Find the tension in the cable and the horizontal and vertical components of the force exerted on the beam at the wall.

A specimen of oil having an initial volume of 600 cm^3 is subjected to a pressure increase of 3.6 * 10^6 Pa. And the volume is found to decrease by .45 cm^3. What is the bulk modulus of the material? What is the compressibility?

What is the magnitude of the gravitational force on a 500 kg satellite that is in a circular orbit around the earth with a period of 24 hours?
