What's new with the Big 5?

As we begin the new school year, let me welcome you to my class. I would like to again introduce myself for those of you I have not met at the Open House. My name is Leslie Moreno. Born and raised in Middletown, PA, I graduated from Middletown Area High School in 1999, and less than a year later joined the U.S. Navy and served as an Information Systems Technician (IT) for 4 years. I was stationed on shore duty in London and an Air Squadron in Spain. Throughout this time I also obtained my BS in Psychology from the University of Maryland, European Division. After separating from the military, I ran a Before-and-After School program for children ages 5-12. Eventually, I became a Pre-K teacher at a Keystone Stars affiliated childcare facility, then was later promoted to Director. It was during this time that I decided to go back to school and become certified to teach. My family and I moved to Philadelphia in 2011 and I was able to complete an MS in Teaching, Learning and Curriculum in addition to a PA Elementary Education Teacher’s Certification (K-6). I also am fortunate enough to have been able to continue my education and attain an English as a Second Language Specialist Certification (ESL).

I live here in Hummelstown with my husband and 6 year old daughter. She will also be attending 1st Grade here at Nye Elementary. I am very thrilled to and ready to start the school year!

Reminders

  • There are lots of things to remember every week, so be sure to check your child's folder and homework book and sign any necessary papers. I do not require parent signature on the homework books at this time; however, if a student is having trouble completing homework assignments, I will implement this policy on that student.
  • Ask your child about one of our quotes of the week. It may spark a nice conversation.
  • We will discuss current events at least once a week. If you see something of interest or your child asks about a particular event, write it down, or clip it out and we can talk about it in class.
  • Please remember, we are a peanut and tree-nut free school. That means NO PEANUTS OR TREE-NUTS can be brought into school for lunch or snacks.
  • Don't forget to complete any Info Snap paperwork for your child's enrollment
