A word from the Founder
I was recently asked a few questions and would like to share them and my answers with you.
  • Was the last seven years worth it?
For sure. It was much tougher than I thought, but also filled with more joy, peace and life change than I expected.
  • What would you do different if you could start again?
Enjoy it more and take even bigger risks!
  • Is ALI a financially sustainable model?
Not in accepted economic terms, but for seven years we have operated above breakeven levels and we were blessed! However, because we try to understand God’s part and our part we will address these strategic challenges very cautiously.
  • What are your dreams for ALI for the next seven years?
-That we will equip and develop much more leaders who will transform Africa.
-That government will budget and pay for their training and not be sponsored by the private sector. That our impact in our government will be bigger.
-That we will be accredited by the Namibian Qualifications Authority (NQA) and offer university degrees (and post graduate training) in leadership as well.
-That we will impact, like we are currently impacting Education, the hospitals, police force, prisons and municipalities.
-That we strategically duplicate ALI in two or three other African countries.
-That the HR support (right people at the right place) for ALI and the Rock Ministries will be strengthened.
-That my wife will join me full-time and that we will have more time available for ourselves, our kids, to invest in our on-going growth and to travel. (We should improve our “sustainable pace”).
-That the newly established ALI Foundation Trust will make available thousands of Namibian Dollars so that the institute will be financially sustainable.
-That God’s kingdom will come in Namibia as in heaven!
As you can see… God blessed us with something special and it seems that this is only the beginning.
Please give Him all the Glory but continue to pray for us.
Together in His wonderful service
Dawie Fourie
Graduation Banquet
The African Leadership Institute celebrated its 3rd formal graduation on the evening of 19 February 2011. This banquet event, where 189 ALI students graduated in the presence of more than 550 influential government, business, church and educational leaders, made a lasting statement about leadership development in our wonderful nation. Training report
As you know, it is the ambition of The African Leadership Institute (ALI) to equip and develop leaders to transform Africa. We embarked on this journey in 2005 and through the experience of the past 6 years (650 leaders; 30 schools; 90 weeks of training) we have been able to develop a world class curriculum (70 sessions) that is presented by a set of highly influential faculty members in a setting where God’s Spirit works in unique ways in the lives of people. To date ALI has provided life changing leadership training to more than 650 influential business, government, church and educational leaders in Namibia. This includes:
  • 50 Inspectors of Education in Namibia
  • 250 Namibian School Principals
  • 50 Heads of Departments in Namibian schools
  • 160 Government, Business and Church leaders
  • 140 3rd and 4th year students from the University of Namibia and other tertiary education institutions in Namibia
Until the end of the year we are fully booked with 14 full weeks of training and 7 weekend seminars.
It is our goal to train another 350 leaders in the next 18 months, reaching the 1000 mark before the end of 2012.
Accreditation Feedback
After the NQA conducted 2 site visits in October 2010, we received a feedback report from them in January 2011. We immediately replied to their report and have been working hard to get everything in place.
Currently we are waiting for the NQA’s final feedback. It is our desire and firm commitment to work together with the NQA until the accreditation process is successfully completed.
Leadership Training for Namibian Youth (Rock Training Centre)
Ever since the African Leadership Institute (ALI) started training School principals, the flow to the Rock Training Center (RTC) increased dramatically. In partnership with ALI the RTC was able to raise the quality of their camps and the impact on the learners who attend the training.
Between January and July 2011 more than 70 schools have gone through our youth leadership training course. Our approach to youth leadership development is both unique and effective. We encourage schools to come to the Training Centre with high expectations to be transformed. The emphasis is on learning practical leadership skills, developing a sense of pride in achievement, and knowing the importance of team work, decision making, problem solving, communication and character development. All of these focus points are expressed in the 6 C’s: Commitment, Communication, Character, Charisma, Confidence and Courage.

Leadership Quote
Leadership can be a very lonely place at times, even though we may be surrounded by genuinely well meaning people. It is thus imperative for every leader to know his/ her Source of strength, courage and leadership in order to weather the storm that threatens to sink us.
Serge Solomons

Staff news
After much prayer and numerous discussions Jacques Solomons, Renata’s husband, joined the fulltime staff of ALI. Now that he is working with us, we moved the ALI main office to the Rock Lodge where they have also settled as a family.
Tienie Johr, Chrisna von Gericke’s secretary at Walk through the Bible Namibia, is now also serving Dawie and ALI from the office in Windhoek.
Both Jacques and Tienie are ALI Alumni and therefore understand the heartbeat of the Institute very well. May their work at ALI be blessed!
