How to obtain an appointment?

PROCEDURES FOR ALLNEWCOMERS TO ONTARIO

ContactGeorges Vanier Newcomer Reception Centre at (416) 395-9440for an appointment. Students usually spend a full day in the reception centre, involved in activities designed to assess individual students' educational backgrounds, levels of proficiency in English and Mathematics, learning styles, strengths and needs. You will be instructed to contact the Guidance office of the school assigned to your home address to arrange a registration appointment.

PROCEDURES FOR STUDENTS CURRENTLY ENROLLED IN A SCHOOL IN CANADA

If you are currently a student in a school in Ontario or anywhere else in Canada, you must also submit the form FOR DMCI REGISTRATION – CURRENT VICE PRINCIPAL’S COMMENTS which must be completed by your current school principal.

If you are moving from a school outside of Ontario, but in Canada, you must also follow the assessment procedure outline in the first paragraph as well as the form mentioned in the previous paragraph

PROCEDURES FOR REGISTRATION

Once you have secured an assessment date from the Reception Centre and/or are in receipt of the form mentioned in the second section, please call the Guidance Secretaryat (416) 395-3192, # 20040 to request an appointment.

Upon completion of the initial registration with our Guidance Secretary, a Guidance Counsellor will meet with the student to discuss the course options available in order to create a suitable timetable which will be available for pick-up on the first day of school between 8.30 and 10 am at which time a Student Activity Fee of $50 must be paid. Bring a combination lock with you.

WHAT TO BRING TO THE REGISTRATION APPOINTMENT?

Students from schools in Ontario

  1. Proof of residency in the Don Mills C.I. area

original rental or purchase agreement

a driver's license or original copies of utility bills

  1. Personal identification

birth certificate, passport, Canadian citizenship

  1. Your most recent report card
  2. Acurrent transcript
  3. If identified "exceptional," your most recent IEP
  4. If you have been in a Grade 10 program, your LITERACY TEST (OSSLT) results, if available
  5. “For DMCI Registration – Current Vice Principal’s Comments” form completed by your current school

Students from schools outside Ontario

In addition to 1-7, please bring the following

  1. Proof of status in Canada

Canadian citizenship, passport and/or immigration documents

  1. Assessment of English and Mathematicslevels from a TDSB Reception Centre
  2. Immunization record

Students from schools outside Canada

In addition to 1-6, please bring the following

  1. Proof of status in Canada
