What is Region Camp and Region Gathering?

For those who haven’t been before – Region Camp at Camp Coutts is held over the June long weekend, predominantly for scouts and older scouting folk.

This is usually the June long weekend before and after a Jamboree.

Every third year there is instead a Region Gathering, held at Cataract Scout Park for all sections in the Region to camp for the long weekend.

This should be the June long weekend after the Cuboree.

Region Camp.

Cubs and Joeys are welcome on the Sunday to participate in all manner of activities.

There is no vehicular entry to Camp Coutts over the weekend, so there is a shuttle bus operating from Waterfall Railway Station from around 9am –

This is a coach to the top of the camp, then a smaller bus down to the camp.

Check when the last bus out for the day is due to depart.

Alternatively there is a track to walk down to the camp from Waterfall. See the “Camp Coutts Directions” map and you can see the beginning of the trail off Bundarra Street near the station. Or follow another group who know the way. When you get to the main camp road, turn right for a short way then follow the signpost back onto the track, past the Bambara District campsites down into camp. Do not walk down either the motorway or the camp road, neither are safe. The track can be soggy after rain.

There will be sausage sandwiches for sale at lunch, which you can pre-order on the registration form.

Many packs like to take lunch and find their scout troop and eat lunch with them, speak to your scout leader. Then your cubs will know where your Group’s site is at Camp Coutts.

Cubs wear full uniform, with comfortable walking shoes. A change of clothes might be advisable in case they come across a wet or dirty activity. Leaders also wear full uniform with sturdy shoes.

Bring morning and afternoon tea and lunch, drinks, hat, raincoat, warm clothes and all normal necessities.

This is generally a great day, and we encourage you to bring your pack down and check out Camp Coutts – have a look at the Cub Shelter, you might like to bring your pack down here for a camp.

We will be running a base for cubs, if you have any spare leaders or someone who doesn’t want to venture too far, feel free to volunteer a bit of time helping so that our workers can have a bit of a break.

This base is generally somewhere around the Activity Hut.

Each district will be running activities near their District Campsites. Cubs and joeys should be welcome at most, if not all bases. This excludes abseiling and flying fox (which do not operate every year), these are activities they will do when they get to scouts – something to look forward to!

Make sure that all parent helpers wear solid enclosed walking shoes and appropriate clothing – no strappy tops. Everyone is involved in setting a good example to the cubs.
