Bio Bottle

Assigned: January 25th

DUE: February 28th

What is a Bio Bottle?

  • Biography Bottles are 2 or 3 bottles, emptied and cleaned.
  • They are decorated like a Kentuckian, either past or present, which students pick independently. Some famous pioneer maybe? Famous sports star? Actor? Politician?
  • Use your imagination for decoration!

Students will:

  • Pick a Kentuckian & get Mrs. Stomberg’s approval by TUES., JANUARY 31.
  • Research using a computer or encyclopedia to find interesting and exciting information about theKentuckian.
  • After researching and taking notes, students should write a paragraph about this famous Kentuckian.
  • The paragraph should contain complete sentences, be neatly written with correct punctuation, spelling, and capitalization, and should contain correct and interesting facts about the Kentuckian.
  • This may be either hand written or typed.Have two copies of your paragraph. If you hand write your paragraph & don’t have access to a copier, bring it to school before the due date and Mrs.Stomberg will make a copy for you.
  • Glue one of the paragraphs to the center of the of the 2 or 3 liter bottle as shown in the illustration. (The second copy of your paragraph will be given to the teacher on the day of your presentation.)
  • Next use art materials to create a head & face to attach to the top of the bottle. Yarn, fabric, etc. may be used to add details to this.

When is this due?

Projects are dueTuesday, February 28. We will share these on that day so that our classmates will find out exciting information about a variety of famous Kentuckians! This project will count as 40% of the social studies grade for the next report card.

How will this be graded?

A:One or more paragraphs written about the famous American using complete & accurate sentences, very neatly written/typed. Art work shows detail, planning & organization, effort, & is neatly done. Very “eye catching”. Art closely resembles the person the biography is written about.

B:One paragraph that is neatly written but lacks complete and/or accurate sentences or is “choppy” & contains less information than it should. Art work either is neatly done & shows planning & details or shows lack of attention to details and is not neatly done.

C:Project lacks the “polish” of an A or B project. Lack of planning & detail is evident. Looks quickly put together.
