WHA COMPETITION SECRETARY’S REPORT2015/6
WHA Schools Tournaments
The Girls and Boys Schools Tournaments went reasonably smoothly with all being completed. The Preliminary rounds at Girls' U16 and U18 went well and will continue this coming season. Grateful thanks are offered to Louise Catchpole and Clifton College for their generosity of pitches and refreshments for the officials during the Girls Schools Tournaments and to Shaun Edwards at Millfield School for the refreshments.
WHA In2Hockey
The Schools' In2Hockey went well as always at Millfied School. The Club competition was held at Clifton College where splitting the day into genders was successful. The pennants from EH did not arrive until too late for the Schools and one club tournament so I still have many in my possession.
I would like to say a big thank you to all those who helped with the organisation and running of the outdoor tournaments this season. Ray Roberts, Dani Bunt in particular for their hard work. A big thank you too, to Peter Lovell and Dave Lillywhite for their organisation of the umpiring schedules for the schools competitions and to Peter and Vanda Fenn for her help with the In2Hockey umpiring schedules.
WHA Indoor
Indoor continues to be problematic. Entry through the County Association is still causing problems for many as did the late notice of team drop outs. The entries will continue to be through County Associations in the coming season but we are still trying to come up with a format which is fair to all. A discussion on this will be on the agenda for the conference planned for September. In the coming season we have made further changes following concerns around the size of the pitches at Plymouth Marjon and moved the Clubs U16& U18 tournaments to Wellington and Cheltenham . Generous thanks to Cheltenham Ladies College and Wellington School for the free use of their pitches this season.
Thanks go to Ray Roberts, Hazel Bound, Dani Bunt, Tim Hosfield, Justine Nicklin, Paul Earnshaw and Kieran Ryan for their help with the organisation and running of the events and to Nick White for providing the Umpires.
Finally -
For many years I have run the WHA Competitions with the help of a couple of good people but I now feel it is time to try again to include more of the stakeholders in the process. With this in mind I am hoping to hold a Competitions Conference in September 2016 to which those with an interest in the competitions may attend and feel a part of the decision making process. Details to follow!
