REGULAR MEETING AGENDA
MAY 8, 2008
1. Meeting called to order at 7:30 P.M. in the Hurley Theatre, Jr./Sr. High School.

4. The New Jersey Open Public Meeting Law was enacted to ensure the right of the public to have advance notice of and to attend the meetings of public bodies at which any business affecting their interests is discussed or acted upon. In accordance with the provisions of this Act, the Westwood Regional Board of Education has caused notice of this meeting to be sent to the following announcing time and place thereof:

5. Motion: that approval be given the Minutes of the May 1, 2008 Organization Meeting and the Private Executive Session Minutes of May 1, 2008.

11. AGENDA FORUM (Pursuant to Board Policy 0167 – Public Participation in Board Meetings)
During this portion of the meeting the residents are invited to address the Board on any topics specifically addressed in this agenda. Other items may be presented during the Open Forum portion of the agenda. The Board requests that individuals address the Board, give name and address, and asks that all remarks be directed to the Board. The Board wishes to remind all attendees at its meetings that while it subscribes without reservation to the principle of keeping the community completely informed, by policy it cannot allow public discussion of personnel matters. Each speaker’s statement will be limited to five (5) minutes in duration and must specifically address items from the agenda. The Agenda Forum will be limited to one hour in duration.
12. AWARDS AND RECOGNITION:
A. Motion: that upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, the following resolution be
adopted:
WHEREAS, the Westwood Regional School District would like to recognize
Matthew McKay, seventh grade student, on being named as Westwood Junior High School April Student of the Month.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Westwood Regional Board of Education hereby congratulates Matthew McKay for this accomplishment, directs the Secretary to include this Resolution in the official minutes of the Board of Education, and directs the Superintendent of Schools to present this student with a suitable certificate of recognition.
B. Motion: that upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, the following resolution be
adopted:
WHEREAS, the Westwood Regional School District would like to recognize
Brianna Commerford, fourth grade student, George Elementary School in recognition of her poem being published in Cool Kids Connection.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Westwood Regional Board of Education hereby congratulates Brianna Commerford for this accomplishment, directs the Secretary to include this Resolution in the official minutes of the Board of Education, and directs the Superintendent of Schools to present this student with a suitable certificate of recognition.
C. Motion: that upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, the following resolution be
adopted:
WHEREAS, the Westwood Regional School District would like to recognize
Owen Abbott, Isabella Chang, Christian Collignon, Raymond Johnston, Claire Kramer,
Ryan Kurack, Gabriella Lamprecht, Nicholas Lopac, Elizabeth Mathis, Jessica Molina, Ryan Ness,
Rachel Ocher, Michael Saunders, Erin Shanley, Matthew Teibel, Marisa Wetter, and Jamie Wimmer, fourth grade students, on coming to school thirty minutes early three days a week for the past three months to act as tutors, and role models to an English Language Learner.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Westwood Regional Board of Education hereby congratulates these students for this accomplishment, directs the Secretary to include this Resolution in the official minutes of the Board of Education, and directs the Superintendent of Schools to present each student with a suitable certificate of recognition.
D. that upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, the following resolution be adopted:
WHEREAS, the Westwood Regional School District would like to recognize
Octavia Hines, twelfth grade student, for being named as Westwood High School April student of the month.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Westwood Regional Board of Education hereby congratulates Octavia Hines for this accomplishment, directs the Secretary to include this Resolution in the official minutes of the Board of Education, and directs the Superintendent of Schools to present this student with a suitable certificate of recognition.
13. PERSONNEL/NEGOTIATIONS: Mrs. Mosolino, Ch.
A. Report
B. Motion: that upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, approval be given
the appointment of Lisa Tracy, Aide, Autistic Program, Sullivan Center,
per the list dated May 6, 2008.
C. Motion: that upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, approval be given
the transfer and appointment of staff as per the negotiated agreement for
the 2008-09 school year and as per the attached lists dated May 8, 2008.
D. Motion: that upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, approval be given
the appointment of substitute teachers for the 2007-08 school year, and
per the list dated May 6, 2008.
E. Motion: that upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, the resignation for
the purpose of retirement for Robert Soccadato, Custodian, Jr./Sr. High
School be accepted effective June 30, 2008, and the following Resolution
be accepted:
RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Mr. Robert Soccadato has tendered his resignation as a Custodian
in the Westwood Regional School District to become effective June 30, 2008, after
having completed thirty-seven years and five months of service, all of which were spent in
dedicated and faithful service to the Westwood Regional School District, and
WHEREAS, in his capacity as a Custodian, he has had the responsibility of
having personal contact with staff, the general public, and the students and parents, as well as attending to the extensive duties of maintaining the facilities, and
WHEREAS, during his years of service, he has given unselfishly of his time and effort in the interest and welfare of the School District,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Westwood Regional Board of
Education hereby recognizes the dedicated services of Robert Soccadato, and directs that a copy of the Resolution be presented to Mr. Soccadato as a token of its esteem.

14. FINANCE: Mrs. Mandeville, Ch.
A. Report
B. Motion: that upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, invoices for materials
received and services rendered for the 2007-08 school year for May in the amount of $764,955.38 be approved for payment in accordance with the lists reviewed by the Board.
C. Motion: that upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, approval be given staff to attend out of district conferences per the attached list dated May 6, 2008.
D. Any Finance addendum items will be considered at this time.
15. CURRICULUM/PROGRAMS: Mrs. Gregory, Ch.
A. Report
B. Motion: that upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, the Board review and approve the K- Grade 6 foreign language program of the Westwood Regional School District.

22. OPEN FORUM (Pursuant to Board Policy 0167 – Public Participation in Board Meetings)
During this portion of the meeting, the residents are invited to address the Board with any questions, comments, or concerns that may be in respect to the operation of their schools. In so doing, the Board requests that individuals address the Board, giving name and address, and asks that all remarks be directed to the Board. The Board wishes to remind all attendees at its meetings that while it subscribes without reservation to the principle of keeping the community completely informed, by policy it cannot allow public discussion of personnel matters. Each speaker’s statement will be limited to five (5) minutes in duration.
If a matter concerning staff of the Westwood Regional School District is of interest or concern to a resident, the matter should be referred to the responsible Building Principal, Superintendent of Schools, or the Board of Education, either by telephone or letter. The Open Forum will be limited to one hour in duration.
23. ADJOURNMENT
Motion: that this meeting be adjourned and the Board meet in Private Executive Session for
the purpose of discussion of personnel, litigious, and negotiation matters. The decisions
which emanate from these discussions will be disclosed to the public when action is taken by the Board.
