The Constitution of the

Westfield State University Republican Club

Article I

Name:

Section 1:This organization shall be known as the Westfield State University Republican Club.

Article II

Purpose:

Section 1:The mission of the Westfield State University Republican Club is to encourage and provide a context for conservative students to develop and express their political views through meetings, action, and discussion.

Section 2:The mission will be carried out so that a more balanced and politically diverse atmosphere will be available at Westfield State University so students can be better equipped for informed political decision making.

Article III

Membership:

Section 1:Membership shall be open to all full-time and part-time undergraduate students of Westfield State University who have paid their student activities fee for the current academic semester.

Section 2:Members are considered to be active if they attend meetings regularly. Regular meeting attendance is defined as not missing three (3) consecutive meetings. All members are expected to be active participants and contributing members to the success of the club.

Section 3:The current active member who has been an active member for the most consecutive academic semestersand subsequently has the highest attendance rate for all club events and meetings shall be recognized as the longest tenured club member.

Article IV

Officers:

Section 1:The officers of the club shall be the President, Vice President, Secretary-Treasurer, and Publicity Coordinator.

Section 2:The roles of the officers will be as follows:

President: To administer the club program, to preside over all meetings of the club, to have general supervision over the affairs of the club, and to represent the club in an official capacity.

Vice President: To assist the President as needed by working closely with him or her, to preside over meetings in the absence of the President, and to facilitate political discussion during regular meetings.

Secretary-Treasurer: To keep minutes of all meetings, to maintain the communication between members, to keep financial records of the club, to handle all club financial transactions, and to perform any clerical tasks as deemed necessary by the President and the membership.

Publicity Coordinator: To organize the publicity of all club meetings and events in order to market the club to the student population including publications, posters, group website, and other forms of communication as deemed appropriate.

Section 3:Officers will be selected for the following academic school year during a regular meeting in April as determined by the President.

Section 4:All active members of the Westfield State University Republican Club are eligible to run for office.

Section 5:Terms of office shall be for a period of one (1) academic year. An officer may be elected to serve as many terms of office as the members of the club see fit to elect them.

Article V

Advisors:

Section 1:The faculty advisor shall be chosen by a three-fourths (3/4) majority vote of the club members.

Section 2:The duties of the Advisor shall be to provide assistance to the President and membership as requested.

Article VI

Elections:

Section 1:At the last meeting in March those interested in running for office will inform the club of their interest.

Section 2:Votes will be held by a hand vote and moderated by the longest tenured club member not running for said position.

Section 3:No election may be held if there is not a quorum of fifty percent (50%) of the club members plus one (1) present at the meeting.

Section 4:A tie will be broken by the longest tenured club member not running for said position.

Article VII

Meetings:

Section 1:The club shall hold weekly meeting during the academic school year with exceptions made by the President with the consensus of the other club officers.

Section 2:Additional regular meetings may be called as needed by the President with consensus of the other club officers.

Article VIII

Vacancies:

Section 1:A vacancy of a club officer will be filled by the regular election process as described in Article VI. In the case that a sitting officer is elected to fill a vacancy his or her position will then be filled following the same process until all vacancies have been filled.

Section 2:A vacancy of the advisor will be filled by the regular process as described in Article VI.

Article IX

Amending Procedure:

Section 1:To amend the constitution an amendment must be submitted in writing to the Secretary-Treasurer one (1) week in advance of a regular club meeting for it to be voted on. The constitution will be amended by a two-thirds (2/3) majority vote by the voting members of the club and if approved by the Rules and Regulations committee of the Student Government Association.

Article X

Removal from office:

Section 1:Any member of the club may motion for a vote of no confidence if he or she believes an officer is not fulfilling his or her role to the best of his or her ability. If the motion is seconded, a formal vote of the club will be taken via secret paper ballot. A three-fourths (3/4) majority will be required to remove an officer.

Section 2:The procedure to remove an advisor will follow the same process as described in Article X Section 1.
