SCHOOL PROFILE

CommunityThe Village of Westfield, with a population of approximately 3500, is a historical, picturesque community located in western New York State along the shores of Lake Erie. Westfield’s flat lakeshore plain, edged by the hill and upper escarpment, contains sparkling streams flowing through deep gorges and open fields that offer a multitude of recreational opportunities for the whole family. There are eight churches, a modern library and cultural center, museum, a YWCA, and many antique shops. Chautauqua Institution is located only 20 minutes away and offers summer programs in education, fine arts, recreation, and religion. A small, modern hospital offering emergency and outpatient services, with available heliport service to metro hospitals serves the community. Westfield has a diverse economic base including industries in software, machine manufacturing, banking and finance, insurance, real estate, and agriculture, specifically dairy and grape. Westfield produces concord grapes, juices, jellies, and fine wines.

SchoolWestfield Academy and Central School District, covering 49 square miles, houses kindergarten through twelfth grade at one campus, and the high school provides a four-year comprehensive program for approximately 255 students. It is certified by the New York State Department of Education and accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools.

Curriculum InformationWestfield Academy and Central School recognizes individual differences in its students. In an effort to increase students’ interest and success, some classes are assembled on the basis of ability and achievement. Courses may be selected from one of the following programs:

Jamestown Community College Courses Selection for this program is based upon student achievement and teacher evaluation. The courses are designed to prepare students for accelerated college courses.

Advanced Regents Student selection is based upon achievement and teacher evaluation. Theses courses are designed to prepare students for post-secondary schools. All students must pass the Integrated Algebra 2/Trigonometry Regents Examination.

Regents Student selection for this program is based upon ability, standardized test scores, past grades, student interviews, and teacher evaluations of creativity, interest, and initiative.

Local This program serves students with diverse academic skills and goals.

Individualized This program is designed for students who will benefit from life skills. Full credit is awarded for successful completion of developmental courses.
