Catalog Description:

A pre-college course designed to aid students in mastering the basic language arts and communication skills. The course does not count toward degree requirements or in a student’s cumulative grade-point average.

3 credit hours – 48 lecture hours – 0 lab hours

Lee Brandon. At a Glance Sentences. 4th Ed. Boston: Houghton Mifflin, 2009.

Grading Policies & Procedures:

1.0Successfully complete the PassKey program

Please check the class website periodically. Assignment due dates will be posted well in advance, but you will want to view and participate in class forum discussions as well.

Although this is an online class, you will still be expected to log in to the class and participate. I will post topics on the forum. You must respond by answering in sentence format. You will be graded on your participation. If you do not log in and stop participating, I expect you to withdraw or you will receive a failing grade. I WILL NOT WITHDRAW A STUDENT FROM CLASS.

Make-up Work:

LATE WORK WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED!! You are responsible for submitting assignments before the due date.

Paragraph and Essay Assignments – I will post a sample paper:

▪ Double-spaced

▪ 12 point Times New Roman

▪ One inch margins all around

▪ Submitted in a Microsoft Word compatible format. I can only open documents in

*.doc or *.rtf format. I cannot access documents in Works format.

▪ The “Submit” button which allows you to upload a file for each final paragraph and

essay is only available for a limited time; therefore, if you want to hand in an essay

after the due date, you must email me first.

Evaluation:

All assignments will be evaluated using a 100-point scale except for forums and they will be worth 25 points each. Forums, chapter quizzes, brainstorming sheets, rough drafts, editing, final drafts and the final will be averaged together to establish a grade.
