West Kelowna Minor Hockey Affiliate Player (AP) Program – Take 2

The Purpose of the AP Program at the rep level is to aid in player developmentby providing opportunities to play at a higher level and also player replacement. The purpose of the program at the Rec Level is for essential player replacement only.

The WKMHA Affiliate Player Policy is as follows:

Repand Atom Development Programs

  1. A coach can be permitted to designate up to three forwards, two defencemen, and a goalie from the level immediately below their team as affiliates. (Tier 2 pulls from Tier 3. Tier 3 pulls from rec). Teams are not permitted to affiliate from a lower age group unless the Head Coach Mentor is satisfied that all avenues to use suitable affiliates from within the same age group have been exhausted.
  2. OMAHA guidelines currently prohibit Atom Development teams from affiliating players rostered to another Atom Development team. Due to this, both development teams are only permitted to affiliate players from Atom Rec. It is expected that Atom “A” will only affiliate in situations where it is absolutely necessary.
  3. For each player to be named as an affiliate, the coach will need to submit a completed Affiliate Player Authorization formto the Head Coach Mentor and copy the administrator. If rec players are involved, the Director of Divisions needs to be copied on the email as well). Once the form is signed by the Head Coach Mentor, the administrator will add the player to the Hockey Canada Roster as an affiliate.
  4. Affiliate players are not permitted to miss any of their rostered team’s practices during a week in which they are attending their affiliate team’s practices as well.
  5. Affiliate players are permitted to attend league, tournament, and playoff games (not exhibition) that conflict with their rostered team’s schedule so long as it does not leave their rostered team with less than 12 skaters and 1 goalie. Their rostered team should be given enough time to make arrangements to use their own affiliate players and make every attempt to do so.
  6. An affiliate player cannot be used in a game where there are already 15 available skaters or 2 goalies from the regular roster playing.

Rec Programs

  1. Affiliate players, excluding goaltenders, are ONLY to be used as a last resort for tournaments.
  2. The use of affiliate players is not permitted unless the team has fewer than 12 skaters and two goalies.
  3. Affiliate players must be drawn from the recreation division of the age group immediately below. An exception will be made for atom development goaltenders affiliating with a Peewee rec team.
  4. Affiliate players are not permitted to attend the practices of their affiliate teams other than during the week leading up to the tournament in which they will be participating.
  5. Rec teams cannot affiliate recreational players who are already affiliated to a tiered team in their own age group. The tiered teams will have priority in affiliate player selection in all circumstances.
  6. Novice cannot affiliate players from Initiation.
  7. For each player to be named as an affiliate, the coach will need to submit a completed Affiliate Player Authorization form to the Head Coach Mentor and copy the administrator and Director of Divisions. Once the form is signed by the Head Coach Mentor, the administrator will add the player to the Hockey Canada Roster as an affiliate. The Head Coach mentor will ensure fair and equitable distribution of affiliate players amongst all rec teams.

Further Notes

  1. All affiliated players will need to pay a fee of $50 to WKMHA after attendance at their first practice or game with the team they are affiliated to.
  2. As per BC Hockey Guidelines, players from Tiered teams are not allowed to AP to recreational teams. (ie, Peewee Rep cannot AP to Bantam rec, etc).
  3. As per Hockey Canada Guidelines, the maximum number of games an affiliate player can participate in is 10. However, if the player's registered team completes its regular season and playoffs before the player's affliated team does, the player can continue to play for the affiliate team after the 10 game maximum is reached. If the rostered team has not completed their season, a player needs to be permanently rostered to the higher level team in order to play an 11th game and can no longer be an affiliate.
