Through a demanding education of high standards, structure, and accountability, WestDenverPreparatoryCharterSchool prepares students in grades six through eight for educational success from middle school through college.

West Denver Prep seeks founding teachers who are committed to three Core Beliefs:

West Denver Prep teachers live, teach, lead, and serve at all times in accordance with the STRIVE values: Scholarship, Teamwork, Respect, Intelligence, Virtue, and Effort.

In its fifth year, 2010-2011, West Denver Prep: FEDERAL will serve 300 6th, 7th, and 8thgrade students and the HARVEY PARK Campuswill serve 220 6th and 7th grade students, all in Southwest Denver. West Denver Prep will found two new middle schools, West Denver Prep: NORTHWEST and West Denver Prep: LAKE, in Northwest Denver, each with 120 6th grade students.

West Denver Prep will inspire and prepare all students for a future of college success through:

  • College-preparatory Reading, Writing, Math, Science, and Social Studies classes from 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM.
  • Arts, Sports, Music and other Enrichment classes from 3:00 - 4:15 PM.
  • Regular assessment of progress toward academic standards and regular assessment of behavior standards in accordance with the STRIVE values.
  • Daily advisory meetings and community gatherings.
  • Structured planning time for teachers to develop the highest quality lessons.
  • A focused, structured school culture with a strict Code of Conduct and mandatory uniforms.
  • Close collaboration with parents and families.

West Denver Prep will consider hiring 6th, 7th, and 8thgrade Reading, Writing, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Special Education teachersfor placement across four campuseswho:

  • Are dedicated to educational success for urban students of color.
  • Have the highest commitment to improving curriculum and instruction through collaboration, best practices, and regular assessment.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Hold a B.A./B.S. degree in subject area intended to teach.
  • Speak Spanish or have experience working with bilingual students (preferred).
  • Have urban teaching experience (preferred).

Teachers begin work July12th, 2010, though resumes will be considered immediately. Compensation is highly competitive; teachers are eligible to participate in the Denver Public Schools Retirement System and are eligible for a performance bonus above their base pay.
