Wellness Passport Program

The Wellness Passport Program is an interdepartmental collaboration at UNC Charlotte providing students with “outside the classroom” learning opportunities in experiencing a variety of health and wellness activities, services, and programs. The Program is a required assignment for all students whose Professor/Instructor has included it within the syllabus as a class requirement. Students will be required to attend a certain number of programs and events created and implemented by the Wellness Passport Partners. Interns will create and implement a health and wellness program that will be presented to students enrolled in the Wellness Passport Program. In addition, interns will be expected to formally evaluate their Wellness Passport Program, including setting learning objectives, constructing a brief evaluation form targeting these objectives, and reviewing data collected from evaluation forms in order to determine the effectiveness of the program in meeting the objectives. This program will typically be done in a presentation-style format that will engage the student audience around a specific health and wellness topic. Interns are encouraged to select a topic that is of specific interest to them and to consider engaging in collaboration with representative(s) of other Wellness Passport Partners as appropriate. Examples of possible health and wellness topics include healthy sexual functioning, sexual assault/violence awareness and prevention, utilization of exercise as effective stress management, promoting healthy body image, and increasing awareness of effects of alcohol and other drugs. Following the completion of their project, interns will write a one to two paragraph reflection paper of their experience including a summary of the program and its focus, learning objectives of the program, and what the intern learned from this experience, including areas of challenge and growth. Interns will also meet with the Outreach Coordinator at the end of the fall semester during the Program Evaluation and Consultation Seminar to review and discuss their experience in conducting the Wellness Passport Program, as well as their evaluation of their program.
