Foreword - Welding and Joining 2005
The Israeli National Welding Committee associated with the Israeli Materials and Processes Society and the Society of Mechanical Engineers (The Association of Engineers and Architects in Israel), undertook to organize the second International Conference: "Welding and Joining 2005: Frontiers of Materials Joining", in Israel, with the support of the Standards Institute of Israel.
Welding scientists and engineers are involved in R&D, production, construction, and inspection functions associated with many aspects of manufacturing. The increasing world-wide awareness of environmental and resource-conservation considerations paves the way for many new opportunities related to welding research and development. Welding science and engineering is a growing discipline that presents numerous challenges to new generations of engineers.
More than 50 percent of the gross national product of Israel is associated with manufacturing that involves in one way or another joined products. Such products are omnipresent and found in the construction, electronics, power generation, petrochemical, transportation, aerospace, robotics and national defense industries. On behalf of the Organizing Committee, we invite you to attend the international conference "Welding and Joining-2005: Frontiers of Materials Joining", to be held on January 25-28, 2005 in Tel-Aviv.
On the dawn of the 21st century, Israel has achieved a high level of technology that allowed developing a magnesium extraction industry from the Dead Sea, a successful aircraft industry and the building and orbiting of its own satellite. A significant part of the R&D involved in these accomplishments includes a strong capability and expertise in welding and joining. Many of these developments can be attributed to the strong collaboration with researchers from other countries. The Annual Israeli Welding Conference has provided a successful forum in the framework of which Israeli researchers and engineers have interacted with their colleagues from abroad, both in order to share their successes and to learn about progress made elsewhere.
Based on the success of the 2000 meeting it was decided to organize the "Welding and Joining 2005- Frontiers of Materials Joining" International Conference. This conference intends to strengthen international collaboration in the field of Welding and Bonding engineering and science. You are invited to participate, share your recent progress with us, and learn about new welding and joining techniques.
