UB Residents Committee

The University at Buffalo Residents Committee (UBRC) is an organization comprising peer-elected resident and fellow representatives who strive to:

  • Facilitate the educational,professional and personal development of residents and fellows
  • Communicate and exchange information across programs on all aspects of residency and fellowship education including education environment, benefits, and quality of life issues
  • Provide an effective, confidential liaison between residents, fellows and the GME
  • Collaborate and cooperate with the University, individual programs, and area hospitals to resolve issues related to safe delivery of high qualitypatient care
  • Foster an environment where residents and fellows have the opportunity tolearn,excel in service, teaching and research while exhibiting ethical and professional modes of practice
  • Provide resident and fellow representation in key forums responsible for resident privileges, benefits, and safety
  • Create an atmosphere favorable to retaining medical students, residents, and fellows in the Western New York area

The UBRC meets on a quarterly basis to address any and all concerns that the residents and fellows may have, and we provide all GME trainees with direct access to the university administration. The committee sends three elected UBRC steering committee members to the monthly Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC) meetings, where they serve as full voting members. This again provides residents and fellows access to UB GME administration at its highest levels and gives us a voice in decisions that directly affect us.

R2 Initiative: Resiliency Through Residency

The Resiliency Through Residency initiative aims to focus holistically on self-care, in order to support the professional development of empathic physician-healers who can attend to the humanistic aims of medicine for themselves, their patients, and the communities they serve.

The mission of this initiative is to promote the wellness and resiliency of physician trainees during residency by:

  • fostering positive physical, mental, social, and spiritual well-being;
  • encouraging a training environment that allows for mindful self-evaluation, repair, and renewal;
  • nurturing balance and integration for the realization of full potential.
