THE SOUTH INDIAN OCEAN BILLFISH COMPETITION OF LE MORNE ANGLERS’ CLUB – BLACK RIVER, MAURITIUS FROM THE 7TH TO THE 13TH OF FEBRUARY 2017

The SIOBC having taken place since 2000, has gained such a tremendous reputation that it has been listed as one of the best competitions with the International Game Fishing association (IGFA) in the South Indian Ocean. The event for 2016 took place in an awesome and warm atmosphere at the Club which is now well known for its conviviality. For 2017 we will give you the opportunity to participate in a CASH PRIZE FORMULA.

RULES & REGULATIONS

FISHING DATES AND TIME

Fishing starts everyday at 7.00 and ends at 16.30, at that time all lines must be out of the water. All boats must be back at Le Morne Anglers’ Club by 17.00 latest and the score cards remitted to the jury at 17.30 latest otherwise a penalty of 100 points will be applicable.

FISHING LINE

The Competition will be fished on 80 lbs. line test only. All lighter line used will be considered as 80 lbs. line test. No specific brand of fishing line is required,
however, only IGFA rated lines will be accepted. There should be no 130 lbs. tackle on board otherwise all the catches of the day will be disqualified.

RELEASE RULES

Any Marlin (Blue, Black, Striped) estimated to weigh 300 lb. or less must be released.

All Sailfish and Spearfish must be released.

Any of the above Billfish will be considered released as soon as the leader is in hand. In order to be eligible for points, at least two or more photographs of the release showing clearly the leader in hand, the bands and the fish must be submitted to the Jury. Photographs must show the date and time of the release.

In the event of a Marlin (Blue, Black, Striped ) is brought dead to the boat, it must be boated without being gaffed to be eligible for points. In this case one point per pound will be awarded to that catch.

POINTS FOR RELEASED FISH

Points will be awarded for eligible released
Billfish as follows:

Marlin (Blue, Black, Striped) 300 pts
Sailfish 125 pts
Spearfish 25 pts

POINTS FOR BOATED BILLFISH

Any Marlin (Blue, Black, Striped) over 300 lbs.
”legally” caught and boated will be awarded one point per pound.

Any Marlin (Blue, Black, Striped) gaffed and boated and weighing less than 300 lbs. will not be eligible for points.

If a fish is hooked before 16:30, reported in the radio, boated or released after 16:30, there will be no penalty and no limited time to reach the jetty of LMAC.

BONUS POINTS FOR BOATED BILLFISH

100 bonus points for eligible Marlin weighing over 300 – 500 lbs

Over 500 lbs will score 200 bonus points

100 bonus points for the heaviest eligible Marlin on each day

100 bonus points for the heaviest eligible Marlin of the Competition

REPORTING TO THE SCORER/ WEIGHT MASTER

Team captains must report to the Scorer/ Weight Master immediately after docking and by 17.30 latest submit photography of released billfish if any and remit their completed score cards even if no scoring fish was caught. Failure to comply to the above will result in a penalty of 100 points.
The Organizers reserve the right to ask for a sample of the fishing line used to catch any declared fish and to inspect the boat at any time.
