A few Las Vegas Tour FAQs
What age groups will be travelling to Las Vegas?
Currently we are looking at taking teams for U13U14, U15, Varsity grade, age groups.
Where will the tournaments be held?
Las Vegas, Nevada.
What will I be required to pay should I make the team?
The cost of the trip in previous years has been $4,200.00 but will increase to approximately $4,600-4,800 due to the cost of accommodation and airline fuel costs. This covers all expenses except training camps.
When will I find out if I have been selected?
The coaches will have a week after the January camp to finalize their teams. Once we have a confirmed team list from each coach we will post the teams on our website and notify everyone who trialed.
BEST OF LUCK TO ALL OUR TRIALISTS!

15U Boys 2017 Team

Welcome to the NZ Basketball Academy (NZBA)

The 2017/2018 season is fast approaching!
Welcome back to our extended basketball family and warm greetings to the new families who have joined us.
In July we experienced a fantastic tour with100+ athletesand parents who traveled to Vegas and competed in the respective Jam On It and Bigfoot Hoops tournaments. All six teams did exceptionally well with special mention to our Varsity Girls who won two out of their three respective tournaments and definitely left their mark on the international arena! Congratulations to the girls, coaches Nixon & Junior and Team Manager, Luana. Special mention must also go to the 15U boys for getting the silverware in the Jam On It tournament. Congratulations to our other teams who also made the quarter-finals and semi-finals in the respective tournaments.
Thank you to our dedicated coachesand managers who voluntarily give of their time for the good of our Academy athletes.
Current events in Vegas
With the unfortunate event in Las Vegas this week, our thoughts and prayers go out to all those involved.
Our organization has a duty of care and will take all pre-cautionary measures to ensure the risks associated with traveling overseas is managed and mitigated. The Academy understands our athletes and Academy staff’s safety is paramount.
The NZBA Executive Committee

Who Are We?

The NZ Basketball Academy (NZBA) is a non-profit organisation that was established in 2011 to provide a pathway for student athletes to achieve Academic and Athletic excellence.
The purpose of the Academy is to support young talented New Zealanders to pursue their basketball careers by providing and delivering programmes that communicate our vision of “Excellence in Basketball and Education.”
Background
The NZBA is an initiative which has been inspired by the work of New Zealand basketball legend,Kenny McFadden.
Kenny identified that there is a gap in New Zealand for young and talented athletes who have the potential to gain University Scholarships but do not have a stage in which to showcase their talents overseas. The NZ Basketball Academy was set up to offer school leaving athletes the opportunity not only to continue their success with basketball, but more importantly, to support them in their quest for tertiary level education. The NZBA is not a scouting or recruiting agency but does provide the tools necessary to equip the potential athlete with the skills and work ethic necessary to succeed in Basketball and life.
If you are interested in getting involved with the Academy please contact Kenny on (021) 432212 or email

The Annual Las Vegas 2017 Tour

/ What is the Annual NZBA Las Vegas Tour?
The purpose of the tour is to expose New Zealand players to intensity of the American style of play by competing against some of the best AAU/NCAA club teams in the nation.
The tour takes place during the month of July though we have to work around New Zealand's regional representative tournaments so dates are difficult to pin down until the release of their harmonized calendar. The tour itself usually lasts for around 10-15 days, which at its latest would have the athletes back for the end week 2 of the third school term.

Parent Volunteers wanted!

As the New Zealand Basketball Academy is a non-profit organization we rely on donations and sponsorship from various funding agencies and organizations. Over the years we have also been quite ‘lite’ with parent volunteers and helpers. We are looking for expressions of interest in the area of fundraising events. If you are keen to help out with the organization of such events for our Academy athletes then get in touch with Soozie or Miria.
