Schedule Information- It is very important for 2 year olds to have a safe, structured environment where they can learn and grow. We provide the above schedule so that your child can make the most out of their day. Although all of the day is important especially important times of the day include Circle Time and Groups. These are the times of day where we create many structured learning activities so that your child can gain important skills. During those times we work on shapes, colors, appropriate language use, gross and fine motor skills, matching, and many other skills. We incorporate these skills throughout the day but during Circle and Group time we focus on them to help your child truly gain an understanding.

Communication and Daily Information- We want you to know what is happening in your child’s day as much as possible. In order to do this we offer various forms of communication.

Verbal communication is very important to us, that is why our teachers are scheduled in a way that during drop off and pick ups you will be able to discuss with us any information that you would like. Miss Krysty is here daily from 7:30-4:30 and Miss Kayla is here from 8:15-5:15. If your child’s teacher is not available for you to talk to please feel free to write a note on the white board located on top of their cubby. We especially encourage parents to use these during Cirlce Time drop offs/pick ups.

We also send home a daily note very similar to those found in the 1-year-old classroom, this offers information about diapers/potty, any items that your child might need and fun activities your child enjoyed.

You will find daily notes, artwork, and important notes in your child’s take home folder located above the sign out sheet.

There are two white boards located behind the door. The first one is a calendar that offers information about birthdays and changes in schedule. The second has our daily meal information on one side and what activities we did that day.

Allergy Reminders- Reminder that The Academy is a nut-free facility. We have several children here with nut allergies so please refrain from sending in any snacks that have nuts or are made in a facility with nuts, please look at all food labels before sending in any snacks. Many parents enjoy sending in snacks for the children to share, we very much appreciate this but please check with your child (ren)’s teachers first to ask about any other allergies that your child’s class may have.

Item’s to bring- There are several items that your child will need to have a successful and happy day in the Jungle Room. If you have any questions and/or concerns about the items listed below please feel free to discuss them with your child’s teacher.

-Weather appropriate clothing (Winter – Coat, snow pants, boots, mittens, hat, changes of clothes) (Summer- bathing suit, towel, water shoes, changes of clothes)

-Sunscreen

-Bedding Bag (fitted crib sheet, blanket, lovie, pacifier*)

-Slippers/ Indoor shoes to keep our facility clean

-Diapers and wipes (check your child’s daily note for when they need more)

-Any medications or inhalers (remember to fill out a permission to be administers form)

* Pacifiers will only be giving during rest time

Potty Training- We highly encourage the use/trying to use the potty. It is part of our daily routine that during diapers each child will go into the bathroom and attempt to use the potty. We have a sticker reward chart located in the bathroom. Although it is encouraged we do not ever force a child to use the potty. If you bring your child in underwear please provide at least 5 extra changes of clothing.

Parent/Teacher Conferences- Every six months we provide parents the opportunity to meet with your child’s lead teacher to discuss your child’s development. They will provide you with a portfolio based on the Maine State Guidelines for Early Childhood Education. It will include an observation summary, a checklist provided by Creative Curriculum, and observations taken by your child’s teachers. This is a great opportunity for parents and teachers to get on the same page about your child’s development and strategies to use. If you ever would like to meet with your child’s teacher to discuss any concerns please feel free to make a meeting.
