Livingston Rugby Football Club

Welcome to the 2017/2018 Season

Welcome to Livingston Rugby Clubs 2017/18 Season. I am honoured to be the new VP Youth Rugby at Livingston, although I have some pretty big shoes to fill with Jill Paterson stepping down. I’d like to thank Jill for all she has done for the youth Section and I’m very pleased to say Jill will continue her involvement at the club on our the Main Committee.

We have some amazing volunteers on the youth Section, who gave up a lot of their time as coaches, managers, first aiders, kitchen staff as well as a number of parents who help on the sidelines. Since joining the club I have been continually blown away but the efforts of our volunteers.

Livingston Rugby Club is edging closer to its 50th anniversary, and there is lots of exciting events taking place, anyone who is interested in getting involved do let me know if you can donate even a small amount of time, as everything helps.

The youth Section committee has a vibrant membership base from our micros in P1-7 to our older players from Under 13 – Under 18. Training for each team can vary and we would encourage you to check out our website to stay up to date.

We have a few new faces on the Youth Section Committeethis year and I’m thrilled to have the following people on board: Claire Nimmo (p4’s), Stuart Henderson (p5’s),Dhana McIver (Treasurer & p6s), Scott Philp and Kenny Wilson (u13), Iain MacAulay (u15), Gary Murchison (u16), and Kerry McElwee (mini fixtures secretary). If you have any questions, please contact myself or any of the above, we’d love to hear from you!

We have lots of fixtures planned this season and will be meeting a few new clubs. Our U13’s up to under 18’s are in the Mitsubishi Galant conference and our Girls the Mitsubishi East Conference.

I look forward to seeing you all in the season ahead.

Youth Section Membership Application Pack,Season 2017-2018

About Us

The club was founded in 1968 and from humble beginnings; our Youth Section has been going from strength to strength in recent years. The Livingston RFC Youth Section is split into 3 groups:

  • Micro players (P1-3) train together and play touch rugby. Towards the end of the season the older children may start to play contact rugby in preparation for moving up in to the Mini section.
  • Mini players are split in to 4 separate teams (P4-7). They play full contact rugby with the relevant age grade law variations.
  • Midi players are grouped into 4 teams, they are in a conference league structure - S1s, S2s, Under 15’s, Under 16’s and under 18’s.

Each team has a Manager and a number of coaches assigned to it. The Manager acts as the focus forcommunications with parents. Any issues or query should initially be directed to the Manager. The Coaching team focuses mainly on the organisation and running of training sessions and matches.LiviRFC Youth Section is organised through the Youth Section Committee, headed by the Vice President of Youth Rugby. The committee meetmonthly to discuss matters relating to the youth section including tournaments, finance, equipment, coaching etc, and the VP Youth Rugby sits on the management committee.

Notes to Parent/Carer Consent Form:

  • Whilst we appreciate that some of the information on this form is duplicated on the Registration Form, this form will bepart of the coaches’ pack and accompany each player for each rugby session (either training or matches) withLivingston Rugby Football Club - Youth Section.
  • All sections of this form must be completed. If you have nothing to write in a field please put “Not Applicable”to indicate that no information is missing. In the event of illness or accident the information on this form may beused by medical professionals to decide how to treat your child so accuracy and completeness are essential.
  • If your child suffers from a condition that requires medication, such as asthma or diabetes, please note under theMedicationsection what the medication is, and if the child can self-medicate. It is essential that your child bringsappropriate medication with them to training sessions or fixtures. They should inform a Coach or Manager of where tolocate their medication in an emergency. If your child requires medication, and does not have their medicationavailable to them at a training session, or fixture, they may not be permitted to participate if their health or safety isconsidered to be at risk. It is possible that your child’s medical details will change during the year.
  • You are responsiblefor notifying the Club of these changes, and ensuring that the details that we hold are updated, either by amendingand initialling the original Consent Form, or by submitting a new Consent Form. If this situation arises please contactyour child’s team’s Manager.
  • Parent/Carer is responsible for ensuring that their child comes appropriately equipped for the weather conditionsand with suitable safety equipment i.e. mouth guard. Ideally your child should always be prepared for any possiblechange in the weather. Several thin layers of clothing are generally better than a couple of thick layers as it allows thechild to remove layers if they are too hot, and add layers if they cool down.
  • In the winter gloves, or mitts, and a hat arealways a good idea.
  • For safety reasons players must not wear scarves or garments with hoods during a training session or match.
  • Jewellery must also be removed, as it can be a hazard for both the wearer and other participants.
  • All garments and equipment should be marked with a clear identifying mark to allow lost articles to be
  • returned to the rightful owner. Children should avoid bringing items of value (mobile phones, electronic games etc) totraining sessions or matches. The Coach and Manager are not obliged to take any responsibility for valuables.
  • Sun protection should be considered part of the required equipment in the latter part of the season in the hope that the sun pops out, sun protection should be considered. If your child has any allergies related to sun creams please add this to the consent form.
  • Please note that if your child is inappropriately dressed, or not suitably equipped, the Coach and Manager reserve theright to exclude the child from any part of the rugby session if they judge child’s health or safety to be at risk, or if theypose a risk to others. The decision of the Coach or Manager is final.

Car Pooling – When we have away matches, we try to pool our resources to ensure all the kids have a chance to play at other clubs. If you have extra room in the car, get in touch with your manager and see if you can give a lift to another player.

Livingston Rugby Football Club is run by volunteers for the benefit of the community and the sport. Membership is the lifeblood of the Club and in the Youth Section we also carry out fundraising activity from time to time.

We aim to keep our subscription rates as affordable as possible so that every child with a passion for rugby from primary 1 can join in and reach their potential. This year we expect to have 200 children playing for our teams with parents, friends and other family coming along to support them at matches home and away with teams coming from the length and breadth of the country.

To keep this success going we have sponsorship opportunities for you to consider and to pass on to employers and local businesses. In return for this support, our sponsors will be listed in our Youth Section tournament programmes, online and on our 2017/18 sponsors wall at the club.!Please contact our VP commercial Paul McGrotty if you want to know more about sponsorship opportunities.
