Welcome to Reception CH 2017

I am looking forward to a great year of learning with you as a part of our class. I would like to begin with some information about our classroom routines.

Communication

This year the Reception classes will be using email and class blogs to communicate with parents. Please make sure I have your email details and please check your email regularly.

The class blog address is receptionch2017.weebly.com

To access the blog you will need to type the address into the address bar, it will not come up on a google search.

Morning Routine

The classroom opens at 8:45am when the bell sounds. All students are to line up on the asphalt near the stairs. Students are not permitted in the classroom before 8:45am. When students enter the classroom they will give any notes to myself and be seated on the floor to begin our roll call.

Fruit Snack

Each morning we have a healthy snack before recess (at approximately 10am). The children may bring fresh fruit, vegetables or pieces of cheese to eat at this time. Please do not send yoghurt for fruit snack.

Homework

Students will bring home Oral Language packs in Term 1. These packs will be sent home after the parent reading workshop run by Mrs Cathy Regester on Thursday 9th Feb at 6pm in the Resource Centre.

All students will have a blue satchel homework bag. This will contain a reader diary for parents to note all reading in each day andsight wordsor an alphabet key ring.

Parent Reading

Parent volunteers are welcome to come and listen to students read in the classroom beginning later in the term and I will provide more details in the next couple of weeks.

Sports Uniform

Sports uniforms are to be worn on Monday and Thursday. The students will have their sport lessons on Monday(coloured house team top) and we will go for our beach walks on Thursday (striped top). The students will also be doing 10-15 minutes of fitness on the other days but their normal school uniform is sufficient for this.

Beach Walks

As a class we will be going on a beach walk each Thursday(weather permitting) and this will commence in week 5. We do require some parent volunteers for this and any assistance would be greatly appreciated. If you are able to assist can you please let me know.

Art Smocks

All students need to have an art smock at school, please label these clearly with your child’s name.

Library

Library day is onThursday. All students will require a clearly labelled library bag to bring along on these days. All students are able to borrow two library books for the week and their books must come back by the following Thursday to be able to borrow again.

Community Prayer

Each Tuesday morning at 8:45am the whole school attends Community Prayer in Our Lady of Victories Church. Parents, grandparents and siblings are welcome to sit with our class during this time.

Snippets

On Tuesday mornings, following Community Prayer, our class will have Snippets with Mrs Judy James (Religious Education Coordinator) in the Church. Parents, grandparents and younger siblings are encouraged to stay to take part in activities related to the Gospel. These activities are fun and hands-on so extra help is always appreciated.

Afternoon Routine

The class will pack their bags and meet you outside of the classroom when the bell rings at the end of the day (3:10pm). In week 1 thereception students will be finishing at 12:30pm, in week 1 please collect students from the classroom.

Parent Volunteers

If you would like to assist in the classroom with reading, excursions or our beach walks any help would be greatly appreciated. If you are a new parent to the school or have not volunteered before can you please see Deb in the office about becoming a volunteer.

Tissues

Could you please donate a box of tissues for the class as we will use these over the course of the year.

I will keep you updated during the term via email and the class blog with any news regarding events that occur. Each student will receive a copy of the topics for the morning news in their reader bag for the term.An overview will be sent home this week which will give you an outline of what we will be learning about this term.

If you have any questions please feel free to come in and see me after school or make a time that is convenient.

Regards,

Rebecca Churchman Hope.
