Welcome to Mrs. Kohut’s Reading Class
REQUIREMENTS for each class period:
•Text book (we will be keeping these in the classroom)
•Blue/Black ink pen or pencil
•A one subject notebook for notes/class work
•Folder with pockets for workbook/ handout pages
•Homework folder/planner
•AR book
** Any student who does not bring these items will fill out an unprepared for class slip and lose 1 point from class grade **
HOMEWORK:
~Students are required to read (AR) for a minimum of 20 minutes each week night, and for 1 hour over the weekend.
~Homework will be assigned several times a week.
~All homework should include your name, date, period and assignment.
~Homework will be checked and/or collected
~Homework is expected to be handed in on date it is due, however if handed in next day you will receive ½ credit.
**Failure to complete homework assignments may result in ineligibility to participate in team rewards and school activities. (dances, field trips etc.)
TESTS/QUIZZES:
• tests will be given at the end of each unit of study. They
will be announced several days ahead of time.
•Quizzes will be given throughout each unit.
•If you are absent on test/quiz day, it MUST be made up on the day you
return.
•All tests and graded work will be returned to each student. Students are not permitted to take corrected tests/quizzes home. Parents can access students’ grades by accessing the parent home access portal. Contact the guidance office if you need assistance.
•Students are required to keep their notebooks in order and complete
with all notes and class work. (Keep notes organized! )
•Accelerated Reader will count as a test grade. Each student is
responsible for reading books. (see AR info)/Summer Reading will count as a test grade for 1st quarter only.
GRADING:
50% Tests
25% Quizzes
25% Homework/ Class Grade
COMMUNICATION:
•Student Homework Folders/Planners are a great source of communication. Please require that your child bring home their homework folder each night. Folders should be checked each night for any notes and/or homework.

•District Email I would like to use this system to send mass emails of upcoming events, as well as communicate with parents on an individual basis. The following is my email address; please feel free to email me with any questions or concerns.
