WELCOME TO PRIMARY 1A’S NEWSLETTER

NOVEMBER 2016

LANGUAGE
We have been learning lots of new double sounds. We love singing the songs that go with our sounds. Ask your child to sing them to you – they are very catchy!
We have started to write our own stories and are listening carefully to all the sounds in words. We know that a sentence starts with a capital letter and ends with a full stop.
READING We are all doing really well with our reading and are learning our key words every week. Please keep practising the words and playing word games at home to help reinforce these words as they are very important.
MATHS
In number we are learning to count, recognise and write numbers 0 – 10 and we are getting very good at this. This term we are learning how to add 2 numbers together. We love doing “sums”!!
We are also learning all about 2D and 3D shape.
COMPUTER
The children love going to the computer suite. There they work with Mr Ramsay who teaches them lots of computer skills.
We are very lucky to have a smartboard in our classroom. All children love using the smartboard. It is a fantastic resource and all the children are very confident when they use it. / TOPIC
Our topics this term are “The Birthday Spell” which is a story about a little girl called Josie – ask your child about Josie! Another of our topics was Autumn. We have been on some autumn walks and collected leaves to make into a lovely display. Our R.E. theme this term will be Christmas – this will also involve the children performing in a nativity play for their carers and families.
P.E.
We love gym and this term the two areas of P.E that we are covering are gymnastics and dance. We are enjoying finding different ways to move round the gym hall and balancing on different parts of our bodies. We are looking forward to getting out the apparatus to practice our balancing and movement on. A quick reminder that Primary 1ago to gym on Wednesdays and Fridays so please remember shorts and gym shoes on these days. Please do not wear jewellery on gym days. It would also be helpful if your child could wear a polo shirt instead of a shirt and tie that day as it makes changing for gym so much easier.
MUSIC
This term we will be working very hard to learn all the songs for our nativity play. Dates for your diary are -
Wednesday 14th December in the morning.
Thursday 15th December in the afternoon.
More details will follow.
