Welcome to Core!

What is Core?

Child Welfare Worker Core Training is offered by the Bay Area Academy to child welfare workers who have not received California’s Statewide Mandated training. The goal of this standardized curriculum is to provide consistency and equity in the application of best and evidence-based practice in all 58 California counties. The training curriculum integrates core competencies to strengthen support for improved outcomes for children and families focusing on safety, permanency and well-being.

Core consists of a maximum of 24 days of training selected from the state recommended Standardized Core Training Curriculum. Additional information about California Child Welfare Competencies and the Standardized Core Curriculum can be found at:

Making the best of your training experience:

  1. Be present - We all understand the demands that are put on those who work with children and families, still the purpose of training is to give you the tools and information needed to do this very important work. Please do not schedule meetings and appointments that will require you to miss portions of training or use training time to complete work tasks. Taking phone calls during training is discouraged and should be done only during scheduled breaks.
  1. Be on time – The start time listed on the flyer is the time the training STARTS. Registration/Sign-in begins 30 minutes before the training starts. Anyone who misses more than 30 minutes of training because of tardiness or returning late from a break/lunch will not receive credit for the class and will need to retake it.

If for some reason you are running late or will need to miss a training please notify your supervisor and/or staff development representative as well as the Bay Area Academy Training Specialist (see below).

Contact Us: Though you will meet with many different trainers throughout the core cycle, there will usually be a familiar staff from the Bay Area Academy on-site to assist with the training. Your academy contacts for this cycle of core are:
