Welcome to Choir!
We are so glad you have joined us for this season and are looking forward to creating beautiful music together. Please take a moment to look over the included information in this notice with your parents.
E-MAILis how we will communicate with you about ALL of the important information and updates you need to be successful in this choir. You included your e-mail addresses in your audition form, you should have already received several emails from us. If you are NOT receiving our messages, please e-mail us at and request to be added to the mailing list. We also have a blog – you will find the link at the bottom of our emails.
REMINDNew this year, we are using a program called “Remind” to connect with you on any device you choose, important last minute messages or updates. As well, you can message us easily and instantly to let us know if you are ill or will be away unexpectedly. Check your email for information on how to join our group.
CALENDAR Our Fall calendar was e-mailed to you earlier this month. Please check it carefully and mark your own calendars as we have a few important events that happen on other days of the week. We know families are busy and so we have given you lots of time to make sure you are able to fulfill your commitment to our group. If you spot a major conflict between your calendar and ours, please let us know IN WRITING before October 15th 2017.
ABSENCESJust as missing multiple sports practices can have an impact on your own abilities and your team, missing multiple choir rehearsals will adversely affect your ability to participate – your team needs you there! Every voice counts, and every voice affects the sound of our choir. As well, when singers are missing, we must repeat instruction to catch them up, which leaves our dedicated singers feeling frustrated. If you find you are unable to commit to our rehearsal schedule, please understand that we may ask you to attend our concert as a guest rather than a participant, out of respect for those who have been attending diligently. Please also consider that when you are feeling tired and stressed, singing with a choir has been proven to release those endorphins into your brain that make you feel good! You will leave choir feeling much better than when you arrived. We guarantee it.However, if you arevery sick, you should not attend rehearsal. Please have your parent/guardian message us through REMIND or send us an e-mail at
MUSIC and FOLDERS. Please handle music with care. It is very expensive and we’d like to enjoy it for years to come. DO write notes to yourself IN PENCIL to help you remember rehearsal tips and things to remember…
Please be gentle with the strings in your folder, they are easily dismantled and difficult to repair! In fact, we recommend that you use the pockets in your folder for storing your music. If we use music in performance, we will then place them into the strings in performance order.
PRACTICE
You will need to spend some time each week working towards memorizing your notes and words. The MUSIC happens when we have internalized the notes and words, and can sing together in a connected way.
If you have a piano at home, you can use it to remind your ear of the notes you need to sing. If you need help finding which key to play, let us know!
You can also use the links on our website to listen to, and practice along with the songs.
NEXT WEEK when you arrive, please enter through the double doors outside the library. You will need to enter the library and find your permanent nametag. Put on your nametag and then enter the music room. PLEASE leave your backpacks in the library, out of the way, along with all electronic devices and other distractions. Bring only your music and a pencil into the rehearsal room.
If the weather is adverse, there is a covered area at those doors. Singers are not permitted to gather inside the school hallway before choir begins. We are so fortunate to be able to use this space for rehearsals and we must be respectful of the rules. The doors will be opened at 3:25pm. If you need to use the washrooms, please do so QUIETLY as teachers in this building often use the time after school for focused work.
VOLUNTEERS
Your CoroVoce Team members are all volunteers. The adults are all experienced music teachers, and have taken responsibility for your safety during rehearsals and breaks. Please respect them, and follow their instructions promptly. Any singer who displays repetitive disrespectful or unsafe behavior will be asked to leave the choir. Fees are non-refundable.
SHARE YOUR GIFT!
If there is a choir program at your school, we ask that you join in. The purpose of our choir is also to support our district school choir programs.
We are excited for a fantastic year together! If you have any concerns or questions, please get in touch.
