Spring Term

in Year 1

Welcome back! We really hope that everybody had a lovely Christmas and we look forward to listening to your child telling us all about the exciting activities that they participated in.

The school’s website will regularly be updated with pictures of the children enjoying their school day, so please take the time to look at the exciting learning journey your child takes each week.

Homework - Homework is important and we will expect it to be completed and handed in on time. It helps consolidate learning and build up your child’s confidence. As with all the athletes’ around the world – practice makes perfect. This term your child will be given a project to work on weekly.

Reading Books – These need to be in school daily, but will be changed twice a week on a Tuesday and Thursday . In line with the curriculum we suggest that children keep their books for longer and really get to know it well. This helps develop your child’s comprehension skills.

Spellings – will be set on a Friday and tested on a Friday. We advise they use a Look, Cover, Check (as set out) approach mixed in with chanting. This makes it more exciting.

Times tables– This term we will continue to concentrate on learning our two times tables. Please help your child practise these by singing songs with them, a website link is provided.

PE- A quick reminder that earrings need to be removed on P.E days.We will be having PE with Miss Glasel on a Wednesdaymorning where the children will be learning Gymnastic skills and on a Tuesday afternoon they will be learning ball skills with the class teacher. Please ensure your child has the correct PE kit in school each week, this should be clearly labelled with your child’s name. The children will be going outside during their PE lessons so can you please provide suitable warm clothing.

PSHEChildren will be exploring the PSHE curriculum through the headings of Health and Wellbeing, Relationships and Living in the Wider World. Much of this is discussed during our reflection times, in which children are given the opportunity to share thoughts and feelings whilst listening to others. We also link these themes to our overall topic, providing a real context to build relationships with people and the feelings that this can bring.

PSHE

We are so excited to continue to inspire and support your children in reaching their potential this year with your valued support across the curriculum including sports. Please do speak to us if you have ideas, questions or concerns over your child. It would be lovely to see any certificates or awards your child receives, so please do bring them in. Remember to inform us of any change in circumstance – little or big. It can really affect the behaviour and feelings of your child and we want to be able to support your child as fully as possible.
