Spring term

Topics for February/ March:

This term is another short term we only have 5 weeks to squeeze everything in; it will be a busy and exciting term, those children moving on to primary school will find out about your child’s school place.

In the first few weeks of this half term is book week. We will be running it over two weeks, the first week we will focus on ‘The Gruffalo’. We will make Gruffalo crumble, make clay Gruffalos and make a story of the Gruffalo with our own twists. We will look at characters, events and the setting of the story, learn how to describe and use the characters to bring maths to life by sorting, sizing, grouping and shape spotting. The second week we will focus on ‘What ever Next’ using this book we will explore space and planets. We will make rockets, planets and make star biscuits. Using the book as a base for maths by counting forwards to 10 and count backward from 10. Estimating how many teddies will fit in the rockets. Making patterns from the shapes we see in the stars. The 3rd of March is dress up day; your child can dress up as a character from a story. If your child does not come in on this day don’t worry they can come in any time in these two weeks dressed up.

After that will be safety week. We will help the children identify dangers, how to stay safe on the web, walking along roads, using equipment, looking after ourselves by putting sun cream on etc. if you are conserved about the subject matter we are covering please speak to ether Myself or Maureen and we can clarify what we will be discussing with your child.

Children will go for walks in the village, watch video clips and read Dr Dog.

The last week of term we will be celebrating Easter. We will be making Easter craft, singing Easter songs and making Easter cookies. On Thursday the 24th March in the morning we would like to invite you and your child/children to come along to our Easter morning where we will have craft, a church service, hot cross buns and an Easter egg hunt. This will run from

9am-11.30ish

Email: In order to save paper, we email newsletters and other communications to parents; please let us know if you would prefer a hard copy. There will also be one hard copy attached to the parent’s news board at signing in area.

We are a Healthy School and would like to see lunchboxes reflecting this by containing a balanced and nutritious selection. No sweets, cans, crisp, glass bottles or fizzy drinks please.

SCHOOL MEALS: Please remember that all Fledglings children are able to buy hot School Meals. You still need to order the meals a week in advance from Local Food Links. If you are able to do this online, that would be very helpful. You will need a unique code which hopefully most of you will have. If not please obtain this from the school office from Marion.
