Communion

At the end of the service see how many things you managed to do. Tick the boxes of the ones you did.

1. I saw the words “Behold the Lamb of God which taketh away the sins of the world.”
2. I saw the IHS on the table
3. I heard the prayer of thanksgiving
4. I saw the minister breaking the bread
5. I heard the minister say “Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world”
6. I said “have mercy on us” twice and then “grant us your peace”
7 I noticed that someone took communion up to the organist. (Someone also takes it out to the people on crèche so everyone is included.)
8. I said “The body of Christ, broken for you” when I passed the bread.
9. I said “The blood of Christ, shed for you.”
10. Someone shook my hand and said “The Peace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you.”

Weird and wonderful facts:

Fact One

Linda Van Milligan (who sings in the choir) organizes the things we need for our communion service.

Fact Two

She uses two loaves of toast slice bread – and it takes her about three quarters of an hour to cut it up into the little squares.

Fact Three

We use Sanitarium Dark Grape juice instead of wine. She uses 2½ bottles each time. She fills up 350 little glasses and it takes her about an hour to fill them all.

Fact Four

The elders take turns to take the little glasses home to wash them. Each time two of them do it – so that is about 175 glasses each – and you can’t use the dishwasher. They take them home and return them in buckets. Each bucket is slightly over half full.
