MONDAY 5TH - SUNDAY 11TH MAY, 2014.

The Inter-Tropical Discontinuity (ITD) fluctuated between latitude 14.6oN and latitude 19.3oN in the western border of the country and between latitude 11.2oN and latitude 19.6oN in the eastern border. Its mean positions in the western and eastern borders are 16.67oN and 15.10oN respectively. The maximum temperature ranged between 39oC at Sokoto and 32oC at Ilorin, Iseyin, Abuja, Owerri, and Ado-Ekiti. The minimum temperature ranged between 27oC at Sokoto and 20oC at Enugu, Katsina, Makurdi, Shaki, Zaria and Ado-Ekiti. The relative humidity ranged between 99% at Enugu and 33% at Potiskum. The highest daily rainfall of 99.8mm was recorded at Calabar on the 6th May, 2014. Figures 1-7 are the distribution maps of rainfall, horizontal visibility, highest temperature, lowest temperature, highest and lowest relative humidity and temperature comfort level in the week.

MONDAY (5TH): Generally, partly cloudy to cloudy conditions prevailed throughout the country. The maximum temperature ranged between 37oC at Lafia and 32oC at Iseyin and Ado-Ekiti.

TUESDAY (6TH): Thundery activity prevailed in most areas of the south. Calabar reported 99.8mm rainfall, Enugu 34.3mm, Ibadan 31.5mm, Portharcourt 25.2mm, Oshogbo 16.9mm, Zaria 10.3mm, Akure 10.2mm, Owerri 5.6mm and Ilorin 5.0mm respectively. The maximum temperature was 39oC at Sokoto and 30oC at Bida.

WEDNESDAY (7TH): Thundery activity continued in few places especially in the southern parts. Ikeja had 99.0mm rainfall, Oshogbo 18.5mm, Iseyin 10.4mm, Ibadan 9.2mm, Enugu 8.6mm, Ilorin 4.4mm, Bida 3.8mm, Ado-Ekiti 3.0mm, Portharcourt 1.3mm, and Abuja 0.7mm. The maximum temperature ranged between 37oC at Bida, Potiskum and 29oC at Ilorin, Iseyin and Ado-Ekiti.

THURSDAY (8TH): Thunderstorms activity shifted towards the northern areas with Lokoja experienced 55.1mm rainfall, Enugu 38.9mm, Makurdi 30.8mm, Yola 20.7mm, Ibadan 3.7mm, Ado-Ekiti 3.3mm, Ijebu-Ode 2.0mm, Portharcourt 1.5mm, and Bida 0.5mm. The maximum temperature ranged between 36oC at Katsina, Yola and 31oC at Akure, Ijebu-Ode, Iseyin, Ado-Ekiti and Portharcourt.

FRIDAY (9TH): Generally, fine weather conditions prevailed with isolated cases of thunderstorms over Ado-Ekiti with 34.7mm rainfall, Ibadan 30.7mm, Ijebu-Ode 3.2mm, Iseyin 1.9mm, Makurdi 0.8mm, Lafia 0.4mm, and Calabar 0.3mm. The maximum temperature ranged between 37oC at Potiskum and 26oC at Ado-Ekiti.

SATURDAY (10TH): Generally, fine weather conditions prevailed throughout the country except Zaria that experienced 2.5mm rainfall. The maximum temperature was 38oC at Potiskum and 31oC at Enugu, Iseyin, Owerri, Shaki and Ado-Ekiti.

SUNDAY (11TH): Thundery activity were confined to some areas of the south. Enugu reported 90.4mm rainfall, Ikeja 8.1mm, Ilorin 6.7mm, Ijebu-Ode 6.4mm, Oshogbo 4.5mm, and Iseyin 2.0mm. The maximum temperature ranged between 38oC at Yola and 31oC at Oshogbo.
