WEEK ONE SESSION 2:

  • CGC Item #3Grooming & Appearance

  • CGC item #5 Sit/Stay Down/Stay
  • 10-15 minute Socialization

WEEK TWO SESSION 3:

  • Review of Sessions 1 & 2
  • Owner demonstrated dog’s progress on CGC item#1,2,3 & 4
  • CGC Item #6 Coming when called from 20 ft lead
  • 5-10 minute potty break

WEEK TWO SESSION 4:

  • CGC Item #7 Reaction to other dogs
  • CGC Item #8 Reaction to distractions
  • CGC Item #9 Walking through a crowd
  • CGC Item #10 Supervised Separation

WEEK THREE SESSION 5:

  • Practice all skills for 30 minutes
  • 5-10 MINUTE POTTY BREAK

WEEK THREE SESSION 6:

  • Graduation ceremony, forms and pictures

WEEK ONE SESSIONS 1 & 2

HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT:

  • ACCEPTING A FRIENDLY STRANGER: WHILE YOUR DOG ISON LEASH, HAVE A STRANGER WALK UP TO YOU TO TALK TO YOU WITHOUT YOUR DOG ACTING INAPPROPRIATELY.
  • SITTING POLITELY FOR PETTING: HAVE YOUR DOG SIT POLITELY WHILE A STRANGER PETS IT.
  • GROOMING AND APPEARANCE:GET YOUR DOG USED TO BEING TOUCHED ALL OVER, ESPECIALLY NAILS, PAWS, TEETH, EARS AND REAR END. YOUR DOG SHOULD NEVER GROWL, SHOW TEETH, MOUTH YOU OR SNAP AT YOU DURING THIS PROCESS.
  • WALKING ON A LOOSE LEAD: REMEMBER THE RULE “THE DOG’S NOSE TO YOUR TOES”. KEEP YOUR DOG ON A LOOSE LEAD BESIDE YOU, NEVER AHEAD. IF YOUR DOG PULLS AHEAD, USE THE ATTENTIVENESS TRAINING TECHNIQUE LEARNED IN CLASS TO PIVOT IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION SO YOUR DOG IS NEVER AHEAD. REMEMBER “THE LEADER ALWAYS LEADS”.
  • SIT/ STAYDOWN/STAY: ON A LEASH, STAND TALL IN FRONT OF YOUR DOG AND SAY “SIT” IN A COMMANDING VOICE. YOU MAY USE A HAND SIGNAL. SLOWLY STEP BACKWARDS TO THE END OF THE LEASHHOLDING THE LEASH LOOSELY. RETURN TO YOUR DOG’S SIDE AND SAY “FREE”. REPEAT THE SAME FOR DOWN/STAY

WEEK TWOSESSIONS 3 & 4

HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT:

  • COMING WHEN CALLED (REQUIRES A 20’ LEAD): ON A 20’ LEAD, CHOOSE SIT/STAY OR DOWN STAYWALK SLOWLY BACK AWAY FROM YOUR DOG TO THE END OF THE 20” LEASH. CROUCH DOWN AND CALL “COME” IN A HIGH, HAPPY VOICE. ENCOURAGE EVERY STEP TOWARDS YOU AND PRAISE LAVISHLY WHEN YOUR DOG ARRIVES. IF YOUR DOG REFUSES TO COME, USE A SLIGHT TUG ON THE LEAD AND REPEAT THE ENCOURAGEMENT.
  • REACTION TO OTHER DOGS/SOCIALIZATION: TRY TO GET YOUR DOG AROUND OTHER DOGS TO SOCIALIZE, HOWEVER, YOUR DOG SHOULD NEVER TRY TO DOMINATE OR BE TOO ASSERTIVE OR AGGRESSIVE TOWARDS ANOTHER DOG. IT IS ALWAYS RECCOMMENDED TO KEEP YOUR DOG ON A LEASH AT ALL TIMES.
  • REACTION TO DISTRACTION: DROP SOMETHING LOUD ON THE FLOOR WITH YOUR DOG ON A LEASH.YOUR DOG SHOULD NOT REACT INAPPROPRIATELY TO LOUD OR SUDDEN NOISES.
  • WALKING THROUGH A CROWD:WALK YOUR DOG THROUGH YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD AMONGST OTHER PEOPLE WITHOUT YOUR DOG ACTING INAPPROPRIATELY.
  • SUPERVISED SEPARATION: HAVE A STRANGER OR NON-FAMILY MEMBER HOLD YOUR DOG’S LEASH WHILE YOU REMOVE YOURSELF FROM IT’S SIGHT. WAIT UP TO 3 MINUTES. YOUR DOG SHOULD NOT ACT INAPPROPRIATELY WHILE YOU ARE GONE.

THE CGC TEST WILL BE TESTED IN THIS ORDER:

  • ACCEPTING A FRIENDLY STRANGER
  • SITTING POLITELY FOR PETTING
  • GROOMING AND APPEARANCE
