Week 7 (Mississippi Studies)

Monday

Objective: 4.a, 4.c,4.d

  1. Bell work: TSW do “It’s your turn” on page 210
  2. We will discuss the answers which will serve as an introduction to the material for the day.
  3. After we have discussed these answers, TSW copy their vocabulary words and definitions on page 206.
  4. TTW orally go over these definitions and pick out key words for the students to underline
  5. TTW present a power point on chapter9 “Mississippi in the Post war period”. During this power point, TSW take notes and discuss each slide.
  6. During the power point presentation, the students will watch a film on the killing of Emitt Till. TSW also answer guided reading questions.
  7. After the Power Point presentation, TSW be prompted to answer questions on today’s lesson. This will serve as closure for the class.

Tuesday

Objective: 4.a, 4.c,4.d

  1. Bell work: TSW copy the first paragraph on page 245
  2. TSW copy and define vocabulary words on page 240
  3. We will discuss the answer which will serve as an introduction for today’s lesson.
  4. After we have discussed these definitions, TTW present a power point on population and urban growth in Mississippi.
  5. During this presentation, the students will take notes, and discuss each slide.
  6. For closure/homework, TSW complete a worksheet while watching the movie “Into the West”.

Wednesday

Objective: 4.a, 4.c,4.d

  1. Bell work: TSW answer questions from the previous 2 day’s notes.
  2. TSW do a guided reading assignment from chapter 9. TTW lead this guided reading assignment and help the students understand each answer.
  3. After this assignment, if we have not completed our notes, TTW finish the Power Point presentation.
  4. TSW also be divided into groups of 2 and will draw, label, and trace the timeline on page 208 and page 244.
  5. For closure, TSW complete a worksheet on the last two day’s material. While working individually on their worksheet, TSW continue watching “Into the West” which depicts the Native Americans and the Trail of Tears through Mississippi.

Thursday

Objective: 4.a, 4.c,4.d

  1. Bell Work: TSW answer questions from their notes
  2. TTW go over each question aloud and help the students better understand each note.
  3. After we have gone over these questions, TTW go over everything that the student needs to do in the computer lab.
  4. After these instructions, we will go to the computer lab and do a project on a famous Mississippian.

Friday

Objective: 4.a, 4.c,4.d

  1. Bell work: TSW write 10 sentences using their vocabulary words.
  2. TSW read some of their sentences aloud.
  3. TTW play a review game with the students in which they are shown a slide and then prompted to answer questions on each slide.
  4. TSW be allowed to get into groups of two and study for their test.
  5. Once this time is up, the students will take their test.
  6. After the test is completed, TSW fill out a map of the counties and county seats in Ms.
  7. If time allots, TSW continue to watch “Into the West”.
