WEEK 2: “Eternal Riches”Discussion Guide

How to Use This Guide:

Talking through the message during the week helps you and your group turn what God is saying to you into action steps. Begin with the key questions, add any optional Scriptures and questions if needed, and then wrap up by deciding on your next steps.

Big Idea:

While we live on earth, we are called to invest our time, talents, and treasure in a way that makes a difference in eternity. We do this because heaven, not earth, is our forever home. And any wealth we leave on earth is useless to us after we are gone. But when we live generously and invest our resources to help other people get to heaven, we are building up riches in heaven.

Scriptures:

1 Timothy 6:17-19 (NIV) Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. 18 Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. 19 In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.

Discussion Questions:

  • Tell about a time when someone was very generous to you.
  • Discuss some ways that you are intentionally storing up treasures in heaven. What are some ways that you can guard yourself from storing treasures on this earth?
  • What difference does it make to think like a manager and not an owner with your resources?
  • Share your plan for investing your time, talents, and money here on earth in a way that makes an eternal difference. If you do not currently have a plan, what are some things you can begin doing to live a more generous life.

Prayer Time

Thank God for all His blessings and for being so generous to you. Ask God to help you see opportunities to help others in need. Ask Him to help you begin thinking like a manager of His resources, not an owner of yours.
