AzMERIT State Assessment Testing
Students in Grades 3 through 5 will take AzMERIT, state assessment, in English Language Arts (reading and writing) and Mathematics at their grade level.
The assessment window is the following:
- Wednesday, April 1- Fourth grade AIMS Science (paper test)
- Week of April 6 - Fifth grade AzMERIT (computer assessment)
- Week of April 13 - Fourth grade AzMERIT (computer assessment)
- Week of April 20 - Third grade AzMERIT (computer assessment)
It is important your child arrives on time for school, is well rested and has a healthy breakfast. We will not be calling into classrooms during testing days. Please make sure you make after school arrangements with your child prior to the start of school.

Are You Moving Next Year?
It’s that time again when we begin to look at staffing needs for next year. If your child/children WILL NOT be attending Lagos School next year, please return the attached form to the office as soon as possible.
Morning Drop Off
When dropping off your children in the morning, please use the parent drop-off lane and pull forward past the cross walk. Staff members have noticed children being dropped off at the corner.There is no teacher coverage at that area and it is dangerous for others pulling in behind and around you. There have been a few near-misses. Thank you for keeping our students safe.
National School Lunch Program
Public Notice - Students who withdraw and wish to receive a refund for any remaining meal account balance must notify the Kyrene School District within 30 days of the withdrawal date. This is of special importance for 8th grade students who leave our district at the end of the school year. An account balance can be transferred to a sibling’s account by calling 480-541-1350. If you are using MyLunchMoney.com be sure you turn off SmartPay before the end of the year and contact us for a refund of your balance.For refund assistance, please call 480-541-1660.
Summer Meal Programs
For many kids, summertime means food, friends and fun. For families who count on school breakfast and lunch, however, the summer months can be stressful and family food budgets have to be stretched even further. Free summer meals, funded by the USDA, are available to kids and teens ages 18 and younger at summer meals sites across Arizona. Early Entrance to Kindergarten
Children who turn five between September 1 and December 31 may apply for an age exception to enter Kindergarten early. Early entrance will be approved for students who demonstrate exceptional social and emotional maturity, and whose learning needs are advanced. These students should perform similarly in respect to behavior, social, emotional, and academic skills to their older classmates in order to meet the challenges of Kyrene’s kindergarten curriculum. We will admit students early whenever we feel confident that they can be successful during the kindergarten year and move on to first grade with necessary skill, maturity, and confidence.
Parents who wish to consider applying for an age exception for their child or children are required to attend a parent meeting to learn more about the process. All meetings will be held at the District Office from 6:30 PM. – 7:30 PM.
