The WEC Gold Medal for International Corporate Achievement in Sustainable Development
is an annual award originated in 1985 to honor a multinational manufacturing, processing or service company for its outstanding corporate environment, health and safety (EH&S) and sustainable development innovation, performance and policy.

One of the earliest initiatives of public recognition for industry, the WEC Gold Medal is among the most respected measures of a multinational company's global commitment and capability to maintain uniformly high
EH&S standards and
promote sustainable development.

The 2003 Colloquium will feature presentations by five previous Awardee Companies, 3M, Dupont, Dow, IBM and CEMEX, on ways in which voluntary corporate sustainability initiatives and programs have shaped their businesses, improved the bottom line, and inspired a renewed spirit of leadership from the private sector.

A centerpiece of this year’s WEC Gold Medal Colloquium event will be the worldwide accomplishments of the Ricoh Group, Recipient of the 2003 WEC Gold Medal for International Corporate Achievement in Sustainable Development. Guided by a philosophy the organization calls “Our earth, our tomorrow,” Ricoh believes that we all share the planet and are obligated to protect and preserve it. Ricoh’s outstanding performance in world-class energy efficiency technology, reduction of global climate-warming emissions, zero-waste to landfill (ZWTL) in production, green suppliers pipeline, and a cutting edge environmental management system has succeeded in defining a new standard of leadership for all to emulate.

We will also have the honor of a Keynote Address by the Honorable James L. Connaughton, Chairman of the White House Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ). Your participation will provide you with state of the art progress by leading global multinationals and will benefit your company in its global competitive environment. We look forward to welcoming you to Washington.
