Course Objectives: Anatomy covers the foundations of basic chemistry, cell biology, tissues, skeletal system, nervous system, transportation systems, defense and adaptation. A good understanding of this material provides the foundation necessary to understand material in college level courses.
How to succeed: The following are techniques used successfully by other students, they work.
You may find many if not all, of these techniques helpful. Everyone learns in their individual way, pay attention to what works for you, take advantage of opportunities for help. In general you should spend 2 to 3 hours studying for every hour of lecture. Be aware that the text and the lectures are tools to help you learn the material, but you are ultimately responsible for your learning.
1. Before lecture, go over the chapter, note words highlighted in bold, look them up in the glossary.
2. Bring your book to class, highlight the material presented in the lecture.
3. If you don’t understand something in class, ask questions.
4. Take good notes, the instructor emphasizes things she thinks are important, and if something is emphasized more than once, it is likely to show up on a test.
5. After class, read the chapter in depth. You should do this within 24 hours of the lecture.
6. Rewrite your notes in light of reading the chapter carefully, again do this ASAP after the lecture.
7. See instructor before or after school. This time is set aside for the purpose of answering questions from students, clarifying lectures, and going over the book.
8. Make sure labs, homework and projects are handed in on time.
Tests and Grading Policies
Tests 30%
Tests will be given at the end of each chapter or chapters studied. Tests will range from 50 –100 points depending on the size of the chapter. Tests will be graded according to the grade scale of Bishop Montgomery high School.
Quizzes 10%
Quizzes will be given periodically throughout the chapter. They will range from 5 – 25 points.
Labs 10%
Labs will be given with each unit to help with content understanding. Some labs will be handed in directly after the labs. Formal labs will be handed in several days after completion of the lab and will be typed.
Homework 30%
Homework will be assigned three to four times a week. It will be graded. Homework accounts for a large portion of your grade!
Final 15%
A final exam will be given at the end of each semester.
Participation 5%
Bringing your book and taking notes and answering questions in class.
There will be no make-up of tests and quizzes and no late homework will be accepted unless: Student has an excused absence!
Make-up work: homework must be handed in upon return from excused absence.
Tests must be made-up before school within one day upon returning from absence

A 90 – 100%:
B 80 – 89
C 70 –79%:
D 60 – 69%
F 59% Below
