Dear ,

Professional documents are enclosed for Special Education Endorsement Candidate . The University of Montana’s Office of Field Experiences is requesting a 10- week student teaching assignment for the Autumn 2012 Semester, August 27, 2012 – November 2, 2012. This student has completed a Montana national fingerprint background check. Results can be forwarded to your school upon request.

We value your role as the instructional leader who establishes a positive school climate conducive to strong professional development of the teacher candidate. You are encouraged to call upon your expertise and familiarity with your faculty as you consider placement of this student with a teacher who has: 1) full certification in his/her area of teaching; 2) a minimum of three years successful teaching experience; and 3) the inclination to provide a positive and productive learning environment for our future teachers.

Please review the attached professional documents (cover letter, resume, and transcripts), along with the Placement Confirmation Form, and follow with these steps:

□  Confer with your faculty for possible cooperating teacher(s). You have the option of contacting the teacher candidate for an interview prior to acceptance.

□  If accepting, complete and submit the Placement Confirmation Form by the date indicated. Please FAX (406-243-4908) or email the completed form.

□  File the documents for review and access next semester. (If you are unable to accept the placement, please shred the confidential materials).

Once the approved Placement Confirmation Form has been received by this office, the following will occur:

□  The assigned cooperating teacher(s) and teacher candidate will receive a joint email announcing the placement.

□  Upon receipt of the placement announcement, teacher candidates are instructed to contact their cooperating teacher(s) within 72 hours. Through an initial meeting with the assigned teacher (by phone or face-to-face), teacher candidates will have the opportunity to become familiar with school policies and the specific grade-level curriculum that will be used. Teacher candidates can then use the summer break to review curriculum materials as assigned by the cooperating teacher(s) as well as updating their familiarity with the Montana Content Standards and Performance Descriptors relevant to their grade level. In addition, teacher candidates will be encouraged to discuss possible ways they can use their knowledge of Indian Education for All to support implementation in the classroom.

□  Our office will send cooperating teachers an electronic copy of the Student Teaching Handbook to guide them through the mentoring experience and to familiarize them with the goals and philosophy of the College of Education and Human Sciences.

□  The cooperating teacher(s) is offered the choice of receiving a stipend or 2 graduate credits. Details and forms for both options will be sent via email.

Thank you again for your support. Please contact me if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Nancy N. Marra
