Dear Parents,

We take the security of our school and the protection of your child very seriously. In light of recent acts of school violence nationwide, we have implemented several measures to increase our school’s security.

The U.S. Department of Education’s guidelines for school security recommends limiting school access points and implementing a visitor control system. In response, we have implemented a visitor control and tracking system called the Complete Campus Security System (CCSS). This system includes custom software (donated by The Ident-A-Kid National Child Safety Program) residing on a PC kiosk at our front office.

The CCSS system will scan a visitor’s U.S. driver’s license or state issued ID, and then automatically checks the visitor against the United States Department of Justice Sex Offender Registry and every State Sexual Offender Database. If no license is produced, or the visitor does not have an acceptable identification to be scanned, the system can be accessed manually. When scanning a driver’s license, we are only collecting your first and last name and date of birth, which will minimize false positives. This information is used to do the sexual offender check and is store for the schools use only. We do not share this with any third parties. At the end of each school year this information will be cleared out of the system.

When you visit, go to the visitor PC kiosk, click on the appropriate badge, scan your driver’s license and select the reason for your visit. Then, simply click on print and the system will quickly take your photo, log your time and print you a visitor badge. You will be amazed that this system takes no more time than our present sign-in system. Please wear this badge at all times while in the school. When you leave, simply click the log out box and type the number on your badge. If you need assistance with this system, please feel free to ask for help from anyone in the office.

These license scanners are used in district throughout California and the United States. They are currently being used in San Diego Unified School District, Elk Grove Unified and South Bay Unified to name a few. We are please to be able to provide this program to help assure the safety of all of our students. Thank you for your help in making our school a safer place for your children.

Sincerely,

Carrie A. Geldard
